the stock market is going down
It is going down, been in the market this is the end!
Take your money and keep it out of the market! 13500 is the top but it is beter to sell now then when it is to late.

Ja, invest in AK-47's instead. 0 -
As long as the housing maket remains soft I feel that stocks, even with some market corrections, will be solid. When the housing market picks up again then I would suggest a fast sell off. The Fed has maintained interest rates at a very comfortable level for Wall Street and it looks like interest rates will hold steady (fingers crossed [?]). 0 -
I'm diversifying my portfolio by investing in yummy frozen desserts and "Alf" memorabilia. 0 -
Don't be a moron. You don't have a glass ball and so far as I know, you're just another wannabe with an opinion.
Show me some of your credentials and your reasoning, and perhaps I'll listen to you.
My research shows that the market is going to do just fine. There's been a ton of profit in the last week, people are simply taking it.0 -
you realize one of the main causes of the great depression was the mass selling of stocks.... The only reason the market will go down is if everyone does what you just suggested. 0 -

I don't think the market is going to see a big drop until after the Democrats take the Presidents office and Congress has a massive tax increase. Taking the money out of the economy and putting it into the government will cause a scare and put the country into recession.
Yes you will see ups and downs between now and then but thats normal.
Put stops on your investments if you are afraid so that when there is a drop in price your investment will be sold at a certain level.0 -

If you can't leave it in long enough to ride out the bumps then it shouldn't be in anything of even moderate risk. At most, mutual funds that focus on Municipal Bonds.0 -

You're right. Taxes have been lowered and, as a result, tax receipts have been rolling in like gangbusters. The Bush tax cuts are going to expire soon. Kiss the economy that we have now goodbye for a little bit.0 -

I'm thinking of buying some gold. It's doing well. If I had bought gold and ditched all my stocks in 2001 I'd have tripled my money- whereas my stocks have not even doubled since then- they've earned about 75% which isn't bad but havne't doubled.
That said, something about the idea of buying a bunch of M1 carbines and Garands from CMP and just sitting on them is agreeable.0 -

It was mainly the failure of the FED so make changes in interest rates and interbank lending which caused the depression. There were other circumstances. The mass selling of stocks and the runs on banks were a result of the Fed's failure to act.0 -

Looking at the market on a short term is silly unless you are day trading with millions. The best thing to do is diversify and then your investments work. Check them once a quarter or once a year but worrying about them daily will only give you a heart attack and shows you should not be in the business. I think the original poster is repeating some uninformed coffee shop crapola and is still wearing his tin foil hat from the Y2K scare.0 -

That is the strategy of most American small investors: buy high and sell low. You have confidence in gold because it is doing well and the price is high. If you buy in you must expect it will go higher. If it drops and you sell you have a loss, right? So, buy low and sell high, works every time. Buy gold when it is down, not when it is up, same for stocks.0 -
Here's an updated - every 20 minutes - site that should bring home the impending disaster.

Oh, I agree- I wish I had bought when gold was $250 an ounce. But I think that it will go to $1200 an ounce, meaning today's price is still a bargain. I won't be putting more than 10% of my portfolio in gold.0 -
You must think stocks are really going to tank if you think gold will go to $1200. With all due respect, I sure hope you are mistaken on the stocks anyway. 0
