Have been wearing Wolverine work boots for a lot of years now. A light comfortable boot, a little pricey compared to others but comfortable to wear. Wore a big hole in the side of one this week crawling under equipment on a concrete floor. Off to Tractor Supply to get a new pair. Found some that fit, paid for them and was surprised, $67.00, was expecting to shell out $100 or so. Got out to the truck and took another look, label says made in China. Back in we go, I don't wear work boots made in China. Looked their selection over and either they didn't have my size, 9EE that were made in the USA or else they were made in China. Got my money back and off to the home town hardware store. Got a pair there and put out $106.75. Made in USA. Know the owner of that store well and have known him for many years. We had a talk about shoes, our economy and I didn't care if they were a few dollars more, I want the shoes I wear to make a living and to pay taxes to be made in the USA.

    I admire your principle.

    A teacher in one of the schools I do grounds work for has a little "inspirational" poster in her classrom, which states, "Doing the right thing isn't always easy -- but it is always right."

    Apparently it's not cheap, either, but you made the right call.

    Not cheep but I wear Wesco Boots for real work or on wildland fires they run about $350 but worth it. They are made in OR.

    For duty boots I wear 5.11 boots. They fit well and are a great boot for duty. Sadly I just looked and they are made in China [V]. 5.11 is an American company so I just assumed and well you know how that goes.....

    Yep, got tired of the same thing and bought a pair of White's last summer. $355.00 but made in America(Spokane WA) and rebuildable. Rebuild them for about half that in 5-6 years.

    Concerning buying Made in the USA, I'm with you except for cars. I had three Dodge Caravans in a row and had transmission problems with all three. The third one was ready for the fifth transmission job and the salesman where I bought the car says to me, and I quote: "Dodge was making it really hard on dealerships and us, salesmen, to sell these cars because of all the problems with the transmissions." And I decided on the spot to turn the page!

    Then I bought my first foreign made car - a two year old 1998 Subaru Forester - and I will probably never go back! Now I'm on my second one - a new 2005 Subaru Forester - wonderful all-weather rig! (And I think that Subaru has assembly plants in Indiana. I hope we don't screw up a good thing!)

    I don't think I'll be buying a Chinese-made car any time soon! [:D]

    I'm there with ya. I won't even buy a vehcile built in or if the company is owned buy Japan.

    Interesting, I had two Caravans and the transmission went on both. Now I have a Ford Explorer and the transmission went on that 30 days after I bought it. [:(!]

    If Ron Paul gets elected, I think one of the things he will bring back is national pride - Ron could get the people buying American and forgetting about all of the Chinese made garbage.

    I wanted to buy a pair of Cowboy boots a while back. I went into the local Western store and talked to a salesman and he kept trying to sell me Ariats. I asked him were they were made, it turns out they are made in China. I had to about force him to show me US made boots. I finally walked out with two pairs of Luccese ostrich made in the USA.

    It should not be so hard to find western boots made in the US.
