Browning Bar 308 ammo.

somebody help I don't know if my rifle will handle commercial load of 180. grain bullets. My owners manual says nothing about it. I also don't know the twists in the barrel.

    You are sposed to ask the Walmart Worker these questions before they escort you to the door with your new rifle.

    I don't own a BAR but I did shoot a friend's recently. I think that any modern weapon on the market today would safely shoot any modern ammunition designed for that caliber. With that being said, the twist of the rifle may be so slow that it won't stabilize that heavy a bullet. I think alot of deer hunters prefer the heavier 180 grain bullet and most have success shooting them. I recommend you buy a box and go to the range. One gun may like that ammo while the next won't.

    Go to the Browning website. It should give the twist rate in the specs for that rifle. Just an assumption but I would say that any commercially loaded ammo would be safe for it.

    This year I bought a Browning
    Bar Lightweight Stalker in 308.
    I'm using Federal fusion 180's
    and it is grouping at 1"@100yds.
    Great "light" rifle except
    for the trigger.

    my 68 bar 308 loves the 180 grain remington round nose bullets.

    My apologies folks ,went
    back to check my records and
    3 shots @ 1.8 inches the fourth
    was a flyer (100yds).
    Still excellent for a stock semi
    hunting rifle-twist is 1/12

    Thanks guys for intel very helpful. I bought the gun used and tried 160. grain, very sloppy could be the scope. I will try the 180's and see how it works. Thanks again.
