    Those are supposed to be supplies for a year. I see some as short, some more than I wou;d use in three years. But, it is a start for those whom don't know better.

    I have no idea what I would do with 150 pounds of wheat ??

    Also, what would be a safe method of storing this stuff, without spoilage or refrigeration ??

    you store the wheat in a bug/mouse proof container, and grind it up to make flour when you're hungry.

    A big mistake they are making is storing flour and corn meal.
    The whole wheat kernel, called the berry, and whole corn, will store for a much longer time than flour or corn meal will.
    Get a hand cranked grinder and grind them when you need them.
    Plus, the wheat germ is not included in flour. It has oil in it and turn rancid in storage, if ground.
    But it keeps fine in the whole wheat berry. Same thing applies to corn.
    Plus the wheat and corn germ are good for you.

    I have a cast iron grinder made in Colombia. This thing is indestructible, it weighs about 12 pounds.
    We grind hard red winter wheat and corn and make fantastic corn bread.

    You put the wheat or corn in a five gallon bucket. Put in a chunk of dry ice and set the lid on top, but don't seal tightly. The carbon dioxide gas comes out from the dry ice and fills the bucket. When the dry ice has all evaporated, seal tightly.
    This will kill any bugs or weevils that might be in there.
    Stored this way grains will keep a long time.

    Water requirements should be 2 to 2 1/2 Quarts of water per day/ per person with no strenuios activity.

    Food grade buckets with rubber seals in their lids work great for storage. Allways mark the bucket with the soonest expiration on the outside so you can rotate stock.

    Basic food storage starts with rice, beans and water. You build from there.

    It is my hope that GB's would have a MINIMUM of 3 months of food/water and 72 hours of MRE/dehydrated food.

    What is wrong with these Mormons?
    I see no allowance for the amount of liquor per person.
    Jack Daniels will keep indefinitely in its original glass container, it is the perfect survival food.

    Hey Allen - they put in a bit of dry ice or fill the buckets with nitrogen when they put them up - no rancid wheat. I have helped a Mormon family put up their stores. They used to be asked to have one year's foodstuffs, but now they are encouraged to have two years' supply. Many LDS families also like and have guns - I'll bet if it comes to it, they will have plenty meat too.

    As I said before, the calcular is 12 month supply.

    I would rather hope you would not find the info useless. We all need to store "just in case". I refuse to share my stores with every Tom, Dick, and Harry because they didn't see the sense in storing groceries. Too many people these days can't se their nose for their face.

    E-food storage is a serious issue. It all boils down to Asope's fable of the grasshopper and the ant. I will be an ant, thank you. While we may be generious in the begining, long term, we will save our families and/or group, before we feed some stranger that has nothing to contribute. I would hope all people plan for the "what if's", because they day things go sour, thats entirely too late. It is like retirement, you make plans BEFORE you retire right?

    Families that do not store 6 months to a year of food are the stuff of wet dreams for the Beast.
    Ready made slaves to the nearest 'feeding station'..turn in your neighbor for 'hoarding' or 'guns'..get a loaf of bread.

    At the very best..they become a dehibilitating drain on those with an I.Q. high enough to actually think 15 moments into the future...

    THe LDS church ask members to have a 1 yr supply of food and other goods. Storing wheat and other grains is easy. And Clouder is right, Mormons would be more then willing to help and feed others. And storing that much grain and lentils is not hard at all. Sorry no provisions for beer or wine since we don't use any of that stuff.[:)]

    Perhaps if you were willing, consider storing some for "trade" issues that may arise. You never know if things go south, what one may get in trade for a bottle of hooch.

    How do you get it to keep that long? Seems like around here it only lasts a day or two.
