My area of collecting is listed in my profile, but I have also taken an interest in the Costa Mesa Armalites.

Whatever I happen to see and want at the time. I have a Savage .380
semi-auto pistol, a colt .32 pocket pistol, a garand, an enfield, and
    a bunch of other stuff.

I was completely unaware there was any other gun worth collecting after K98k Mausers, Lugers and 1911 45ACPs.

This thread is news to me!!! Eye opening!!!

The few I collect are ready to go and shot often. If I have a nice collectible and it does not shoot stellar it is sold post haste!!
I don't like to watch life I like being in it.

    Of course, IMO!!!

    Old Marlin, square bolt lever-guns.

Pre-WWII savage rifles of all types.

    Savage 1899's.

    S&W revolvers.

    1911's (modern)

Everything else is just filler, albeit a crap load of filler.[:o)]

    I collect good buys.

The only thing I stay away from is what I consider junk. I will not buy a "ring of fire" made weapon. No Hi Points, OK maybe the carbine if the price is right. No Bryco, Pheonix, Raven, Lorcin, Comanche, Davis, Jennings, etc.

Old model Ruger Blackhawks I truly collect. All other makes, models, or types that strike my fancy I accumulate, especially older Smiths.

If I had any guns, I'd have a few Rugers. Not for collector value, but because they're good shooters.

    And if I had a few Rugers, I might have a single six, a gp100, a P95dc, and a 10/22.

Most of you probably wouldn't call what I own a collection, since most of mine are shooters and not safe queens, but I lean towards military firearms of the 20th Century. I'm trying to get at least one main battle rifle of each of the primary countries of WWII. I'm halfway there: 1 k98, 1 MAS 36, 1 No.4 Enfield, 1 M-N 91/30, 1 M-N M44. Just missing the Arisaka 38 or 99, Italian Carcano, and 1903A3 or Garand.

I used to collect carry/pocket pistols. And I networked with others who collected pocket pistols. Then there are my Colt Friends. And the Ruger Mini Affictionados [folder, gov't, stainless, pre-181]. And the Friends of H&K , the highly respected M1A Shooters Association, and the S&W .357 Revolver Collectors and Shooters Club. Also up there are my plinking buddies, the Clackin' Can Clan.

Collections/interests come and go. If and when I am in the right situation, I'll probably get back into hitting Coke cans & pie plates at 100-200 yards, iron sights, with beat-up .22lr rifles and pistols.

I'm still buying workhorses. Guns that I'll shoot the heck out of and that I can trust me life to. I'm almost done. After that, I need to get my wife and kids lined out with a nice shotgun, handgun, and AR-15.

I personally probally won't buy guns that I don't see a need for.

I'm looking to buy my first gun, this week-end. A neat 22cal pellet rifle. If I don't shoot my eye out with it then i might consider another.
