Merry Christmas With Sheriff Joe
Arpaio, that is.
Son Mark is in the Maricopa County jail. He hasn't called me yet, and since he has been in since 12-22, I don't expect he will.
On 12-20 he announced he was coming back to Texas from Kalifornia, and took off. On 12-21 he called and said he was stopping to rest, in a motel somewhere west of El Paso. I could not get him to tell me where he was exactly. He called his mom and said his car had broken down, and he was holed up in a motel because someone was after him. He told me the car was running fine. He sounded strange, like he was having another of his episodes. He has been off medication for over a year.
Well, he failed to show up, so I had him entered into NCIC as an overdue motorist with mental problems. That got a hit, and we found out he is in the Maricopa County jail, as of 12-22. He is charged with Aggravated Assault, Resisting Arrest, Theft, and Criminal Damage. He allegedly was hanging around a convenience store being a nuisance and the Sheriff's Office was called. He then allegedly fought the Deputy who came to arrest him or take him in for evaluation.
Fortunately, the people at the S.O. recognize that he is having problems, so he is in the Psychiatric unit, under observation. I have been in touch with the clinical liaison and told them where all he has been hospitalized so they can get his records. Hopefully, his condition will be taken into account, and maybe he won't have to do any penitentiary time.
Everything he owns is in his car, and it is a considerable pile. Guitars, amps, mixer, turntables, computer, etc. I still don't know and won't until 12-26 whether his car was safely impounded or left sitting on the side of the road somewhere.
I had been in contact with his mother, and she told me she woke up 12-23 with an overwhelming feeling that Mark was dead. That spooked me, so I did what I could to locate him, and fortunately, he was in jail and not dead.

I can offer no help or advice. But David Nunn is an intelligent adult and I know that he will make the best that can be, happen.
I wish that bad things never, ever, happend to good people or to people that we care about.

Well, actually, now that I think about it, a guy at work recently retired from Maricopa County. He was a fairly high ranking officer (various supervisorery type jobs, officer training, SWAT, etc.) so David if you want me to ask him if he has any advice I will be happy to do so. But you know how things work and I doubt that in a case such as this "knowing" someone is not going to be much help. 0 -

Sorry to hear about your son's situation.
All I can say is to try your best to help him out, even if it means going to AZ.
He may not have called you either out of embarrassment or perhaps he is under medication.

I cannot imagine your anxiety.
I can tell you that I have watched similiar activities with my next door cousins since 1970. We had to help physically restrain them more than once over the last 30+ years. We did have a pretty normal Christmas eve dinner gathering this year.
David, take all the help you are offered.
It appears there are a good number of kind hearted members in this forum. I was very encouraged as I read this thread. It started with your admission of need and developed into opportunities for people to offer their assistance.
Not random but ceratainly acts of kindness.
Accept their help. Great Christmas gift. Sometimes it is hard to receive help especially in personal situations.

Got a brother who's a LEO out of Page, AZ. That's about as far as you can get from where Mark's at, and still be in the same state -- but if nothing closer pans out or one more officer's assistance is needed, let me know. Tim's a good guy and has a fairly unique job description (and area of jurisdiction) that takes him all over the state on a regular basis.
Don't know the ins and outs of how these situations work, so I doubt I can offer much in the way of help, but prayers and good thoughts are sent.
This would bite even if it weren't Christmas. Hope the new year gives you a turn for the better.0 -

Mark remains on our prayer list, and I will specifically pray he is safe and gets the help he needs. You guys at least know he's safe and eating. I would rather know at least that much rather than wonder.

David, after reading your statment that any and all help would be appreciated by you, I just phoned my co-worker. I was a little off in that he did not retire from Maricopa County, but instead a little town just East of that. However, he wanted to help you. All he could offer to me is that since your son is in the Phychiatrice unit UNDER OBSERVATION that you will not get anything out of anyone. He did say that there are 4 possible jails he could be in, but since he is in Psychiatric Unit and especially since he is under observation that woudl have to be the Madison Street Jail.

Dang...I guess "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year" won't fix this. Truly sorry to hear all that and unfortunately I can relate. At least you know he's in a more or less safe place for the time being. 0
