1st Kaboom

With a tika 243, I guess it was a bad reload, it blew the back of the bolt out. Im ok, i had saftey glasses on but my ears are still ringing. Also I feel like a retarded idiot, anyone else every have a Kaboom?[:(][:(][:(]

    I've never had one, but I'm not much of a reloader either!

    I had a Remington 1100 go "KA-BOOM"! This was the 3" mag model early issue. I had picked this up new in Feb. 1973 (a gift to myself before going into the Army)...anyway got back in 76 and was shooting skeet with it, changed out the original barrel for a 26" 1100 skeet barrel. Was shooting old re-load 20ga shell. The ends were so bad you had to hold the end up to keep the shot from dribbling out! Well the crimp on this one shell was "mushroomed", it entered the chamber, and let the bolt almost close and lock-up ...but wasn't. I pulled the trigger and it sounded like a rifle shot! Forearm hand felt alittle "numb", looked at the receiver and it was swelled up and forearm stock was spit! Basically it had tried to fire the shell without the bolt being locked-up. Sent it into Remington with what I related to you here, they just sent an estimated price back to fix it! Didn't ask if I was alright or offer to fix the weapon for free or reduced price or anything or even suggest what happened, just a bill. I paid it and shoot the same weapon to this day! ...I watch the mushroom crimps thought!! *G*

    Had a round with no powder in it Saturday, just a tiny pop, but pushed the bullet into the rifling far enough to allow the case to extract and not allow the next round to feed.....a little on the opposite extreme.

    Glad your ok and like posted above it's not just your reloads. My son borrowed my Ruger 44mag and I gave him some commercial reloads and it blew out two cylinders and bent the back strap. He was afraid I would be mad I said Son I'm just glad you and your buddy didn't get hurt the gun can be replaced. Did get my 44 replaced by the loader.

    Had an M1 Carbine fire out of battery due to excessive firing pin protrusion, not fun! Blew the mag apart and sent all the pieces and ammo out the bottom, got some hot brass and powder burns to the face. Luckily I had my glasses on.

    The real MEAT to this post is the fact that almost everyone who has had a failure/out-of-battery experience has said, "LUCKY I WAS WEARING GLASSES"... Their are few things more important, than eye protection!
    Like momma ALWAYS said. "U only get 1 pair of eyes"...Believe it! I always wear mine, y'all should too.

    I was near a big Kaboom once when a young soldier was fireing a M2 HB .50 cal Machinegun. It was out of time. Blew the sideplates out and arched the cover. Destroyed the gun.

    Had one come in today like that. I haven't checked it out yet. My geuss is timing or headspace not set right. Gun is junk now.

    Had a .40 s&w shell casing come apart in my Sig 229 and blew the ejector assembly out of the gun, I was fine and Sig repaired it no charge! Just felt weird when I fired!

    Do they provide diapers there and give out pacifiers too? [}:)]

    I never shoot without eye protection myself, or drive without a seat belt, but it's a whole different story [:)]

    Blew the end of a double barrel shotgun off, I have it somewhere. That gun has no chokes left in it.[B)] Had mud in the barrel. Much lower presures than you are dealing with. glad you are still around.

    A G43 broke a locking lug & split the receiver and stock.
    I was about 16 and loaded a case with the contents of an 8x50 Steyr.
    It wasn't full enough so I added a 9mm powder charge on top.

    kbs are just one of several problems with this pistol such as, slam fires, multiple discharge, and stove pipes all common to this weapon. [V]

    Yep, same rifle TWICE. I built a .220 swift on a 17 enfield action years ago. I loved that rifle, shot the barrel out in 3 years. I shot it every day I owned it unless I was home sick. I was/am cheap and loaded the same casings WAYYYY to many times and was shooting some real steamy loads. I had case separation at the head, blew the boltstop spring, floorplate, scope, and split the stock. Both times I was wearing glasses and hearing protection, Thank God. After the second time I found myself flinching everytime I squeezed the trigger. I sold it as an action. Dave

    --Almost!! I must have had angels standing alongside me. Years ago when I was about 21 or 22, I had a Ruger Blackhawk .357. I bought a box of .357 reloads, put 25 in my gunbelt, left the other 25 in the box and drove out to the desert to shoot.

    Well, I fired 12 rounds and reloaded. I fired four more rounds out of six okay, then fired the fifth chamber. Nothing but a barely audible pfffft sound. I had never experienced a squib, so I cocked the revolver again and squeezed off the #6 chamber. Nothing but the pfffft sound again.

    I ejected all six chambers and out came 6 empty cases. WTH??? Upon removing the cylinder and checking the barrel, I realized what had happened and what could have happened. After trying to determine the odds of this 2-squibs-in-a-row-out-of-fifty-with-twenty-five-still-in-the-box incident, plus the randomness of pulling bullets out of a gunbelt, I felt pretty weak in the knees. I carried those two bullets around in my pocket for a long time.
