NY firearm laws
Hey guys, looking for some input from gun owners in upstate NY. I moved here from NH and have a couple of rifles I need to bring into the state with me. What's funny is that there isn't an abundance of firearms dealers in the area. Most of the dealers seem to be at sporting goods stores. In NH you could find small gun shops everywhere. Anyhow, my question is what is the law on assault rifles? I have looked it up online and what I get is nothing is allowed unless it is a pre-94 manufacture. However, I see assault rifles for sale on the gun websites by NY dealers. I have a Colt AR15 and a FN PS90 to have sent over from NH. I hope I am not screwed. I know, I should have researched the laws more before I moved. Believe me, its tough coming from "Live Free or Die" to living in this state. Thanks in advance.

If it is made after the ban, it can not have a collapsable stock, bayonett lug or screw on flash hider. Flash hider must be pinned or welded. Also in a post gun, mag must not hold more than 10 unless mag is pre-ban ! (I will never understand that one)

I share your frustration. I just moved to the Albany area from Virginia. I had to buy new 10-round mags for my Springfield XD's and put away my high-caps because they were made after 1994. [:(!]0 -

There is a link on GB for transfer dealers near you. A lot of them are small part time shops and private individuals with FFL's like myself. 0 -

They wouldn't if it was for something like a Beretta 92 or other handguns that have been around for a while. However, there was no Springfield XD-45 prior to 1994 so I don't want to have to try to explain a 13-round mag to a judge in this anti-gun state. [:(!]0 -
There is acually and publication that references when large capacity mags were made. If you are ever involved in a "bad" situation with a firearm holding a large mag, the law will break out that book. The Federal laws are dreadful ! 0 -
Thanks for the warm welcome. I moved here because my wife is originally from Ithaca and wanted to be closer to family. I am really screwed. My ar15 is a A3 LEO and has all of the prohibited items. I guess I can change the stock and maybe have the hider pinned. My FN is in the same boat. Those regs. are just crazy. You can have a flash hider but it has to be pinned? I'll just chock it up to another "just don't ask why" lesson from NY. I got a real education from the DMV on how messed up this state is. 0 -

OMG!!!! Ithaca is like the worst anti gun place on earth!!. I live in Tompkins county(ithaca) and it took a long time to get my ccp and whaen i purchase a hand gun, the application has to go before a judge(10days) before issuing me a coupon to buy the gun.
I went to the Ithaca Mall and went to Borders to buy a Gun oriented magazine and there was not a single one to be found, no hunting mags either but lots of homosexual oreinted reading material. I actually live in Warners next to Camillus. Any idea on how Onondaga (I think I spelled it right). County is for permits? This state is killing me! 0 -

Greene county here. Usual paperwork. No real snags. Permit good for life. And I got the gunsmith (FFL) at Gander Mountain to admit that the pistol-touching restriction is company policy. Said it saves wasted time showing pistols to those who won't be buying it. Joe 0 -
My understanding is that in most counties it is merely a formality until you start getting over by Albany and south to NYC. Unless you have something bad in your police record.
I have even shot them at the range with the local shop owner while he was "exercising" them.0 -
Onondaga county has at least a 6 month wait last i heard.There are no more carry permits. target/hunting or premises permits only unless your a police officer or can prove on your job you guard money.

I read it is a 6 month wait as well. I am planning on heading over to that shop on rt. 5 next week. And they charge $10 just to P/U the application. 0
