How-many U guys got cookin duty tomorro?
I have brined my Turkey, she's just waitin to go to my pops house tomoro to get roasted.Everything else, that can be preped is ready too.
If you have never brined your turkey before, their's still time, and you prob. have everything you need, right in your pantry. Here's my brine.
2gal. water
1-1/2C salt(kosher desolves easiest)
3/4 C Brn. sugar
1"hand" Ginger Minced-up
1 head garlic smashed-up
50 pepper-corns crushed
1- CLEAN!!! 5Gal bucket
1- bag of ice
Add everything to a large stock-pot,heat& stir until everythings blended well. No need to boil.
Submerge washed off turkey and add 1/2 the ice.
If it's cold out where you are, cover bucket and place on porch. If you want to do it in the house, just make sure that you ALWAYS see ice in the bucket..[;)]
Let it sit, stirring occasionaly for at least 4-6 hrs.
If you don't have 4 hrs. to brine it, don't bother.
I never stuff my turkey (just don't like it) I put mine in a 500 degree oven for 35-30 min. then turn it down to 325.Check in a nhr. if alredy brn. "FOIL" the breast. When the thickest part of the breast hits 160F take it out,,, let rest 10-15 min. and E N J O Y !!!!
I hope some one besides me will try it. I want you to see the difference, and let me know what you think...
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Some of my best life memories are of hunting, me and pop, on thanksgiving day.All the "big" kids would go one way,, Pop and me would go another.
I sure miss that.. Living in So. Florida, it's tough to get those old feelings..I'll be back where the weather changes soon, and i'm sure. Hunting on Thanksgiving, is a tradition that will be resumed!![;)][;)]0 -
Brining the Bird as we type. Been cookin' and cleaning all day.
Just took my shower, and turned all the lights on to welcome my brother and his family. If he gits here in the next 30 mins, we are gonna go shooting, but if he don't make it, I'm gonna pull out the Laphroaig 40 and git a little snug outside some.0 -
Turkey is smoking right now, it will be so good!![:D] 0 -
Starting to prepare the corn bread dressing now. I'll get it all ready and add the liquid and mix it just prior to baking. I'll put the bird in the oven in the AM. I usually stuff it with dressing, however, this year I'm going to pass on that part.
My late father was born 101 years ago come tomorrow.0 -

We are going to the outlaws tomorrow. I was going to hunt but the weather here is somthing else. So, I figured that I would drink a ton tonight and be a spectator tomorrow.
I will be fine for my Grandma's for supper though.0 -
WE ALWAYS EAT AT THE IN-LAWS [BOTH MY PARENTS ARE DECEASED] AND WE USUALLY TAKE A FEW DISHES but I am exempt this year as I have been caretaker for my wife after the total knee replacement MIL always tells her " be nice, a good man is hard to find! " ain't I lucky! sorry abou the caps figgered it out half way thru and not interested in going back and retyping it, so there. 0 -
I BBQ outside in the summer time (that is my "cookin duty") she does it the rest of the time. 0 -
Me and the wife switched this year. She is doing the turkey and I am doing the other stuff.
So far I made 2 pumkin, 1 peach, and 1 apple pie-no store bought crusts or canned pie filling crap either. Still got a bunch of other stuff to make.0 -
The feast is Friday, since my guests have to drive nine hours today to get here. I'll roll out some pasta and assemble some raviolis for dinner tonight. Today I have to clean house. Women have this 'thing' about clean bathrooms and such, so I guess I'd better accommodate them.
Tomorrow I roast the turkey. And mashed potatoes and giblet gravy, Brussels sprouts, stuffing, apple pie, pecan pie, rolls, and pre-dinner snackage. Ex-fianc?e will make that green bean casserole with the French fried onions.
Too bad she's not coming up for Christmas. Christmas I make roast prime rib and Yorkshire pudding. Ever go through four or five pounds of prime rib by yourself? I'll be sick of it after a week.0
