I've recently joined. I was talking to a fellow yesterday who is a member of a camp in another state, and he had a lot of praise for the SCV. I'm looking forward to making a meeting someday too.

My pleasure, and good luck to you on joining up. As you probably know, one of the many great things the UDC has done to honor our Confederate ancestors is to have raised the funds necessary to erect the monuments that we have today in southern towns and cities all over the South.

I'm not a member, but I could be if I wanted to be. My entire family fought for the Confederacy.

One of my buddies is. His great great grandfather was General William Wofford. He was with Lee at some of the great battles.
I saw a letter written by General Lee expressing thanks for General Wofford's service at Gettysburg. That is pretty cool, to hold in your hands a letter written by General Lee.
There is a book written about General Wofford, "One of the Most Daring of Men," by Gerald J. Smith.

I am not by nature a club joiner, but have been offered membership in a few Southern Gentlemen Societies. These offers primarily came about after a series of articles I wrote were printed in various newspapers dealing with the loss of Southern culture and habitat due to the influx of yankees who after fleeing the cities of the north, seemed determined to recreate that which they fled. I had proposed an ordinance preventing new residents from running for political office for 20 years and in the case of yankees that they refrain from speaking at all for 5 years.

Excellent idea BDJ: maybe we can get it instituted in nM for illegals!
Think we'd have to add a caveat against running for office, too.
