Maybe real, but definatly in the minority!

I talk with many vets who have been there and/or will be going (between the VA and going to Ft. Jackson) and I have yet to talk to one face to face that feels that we should not be in Iraq!

All of the soldiers and/or vets that I have met 100% support us being there and totally feel that we are makeing a difference for the good!

I know several vets wh say we do NOT belong over there but everyone is allowed to have their own opinion. There's a reason why that is the first amendment.

That's my experience too. Does anything that this guy say make any sense? The deployment dates kind of check out as 1/23 was in Iraq Aug-04 throgh Mar-04, he said they stayed through May-04. But the story just sounds a little fishy. Anyone know anyone from 1/23? I am just curious as there were a few of fakers out there before.

He may have worn the suit - but...he wasn't a Marine.

Yeah, that in spite of the fact that it's an unconstitutional illegal war and every one of them took an oath to uphold the constitution, but Git er dun said so, so they must all support not supporting their oath.

jpwolf...I am still on active duty after 25 years, have been there and will most likely be there again in the spring. I have no problem with you having your opinion, but that is like calling us all criminals because we do our duty.

Now here is my opinion...the opinion of a professional career military Senior Non Commissioned Officer in the service of his country:

This is not a "war" by the legal definition...the US did not declare hostilities against a named country. It is a military operation called Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF/OIF). The US Legislative (Congress) and the Executive (President) branches determined that military force was needed to hunt down terrorists in the 'Stans (OEF) and to remove the leadership in Iraq who they felt were a credible threat (OIF). The military cannot decide to conduct any operations without the approval of one or both of these branches; we are merely a tool of the diplomatic process...a very big tool.

These operations (OEF/OIF) are not illegal as the Commander in Chief has the authority to committ troops world wide by virtue of his office and in these cases, he was backed up by approval of the United States Congress. Hence we are not at odds with our oath. We are carrying out the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over us (Joint Chiefs of Staff).

It is called the Iraq War in the media...not in any military branch that I am aware of. It is ALWAYS referred to as an OPERATION in the Air Force...even our deployment/CED orders state "in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom" or "Operation Enduring Freedom".

I'm still a little confused as to why I keep hearing the term "illegal war". Didn't Congress vote to authorize it? Does the P.O.T.U.S. really need authorization from Congress? What makes it illegal?

That is the exact point that Medic made!

Technically it is an operation and not a war! So it is 100% legal in that sence!

It also needed to be done and it still to this day requires our troops!

And yes a DEMOCRATIC congress authorized it and continues to fund it even as they call for the withdral of the troops! And they will continue to fund it!

Why do we need to be there?

Tim McGraw says it better than I could ever say it in his song "If Your Reading This":

Stand up for the innocent and the weak

    Enuff said!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe I am repeating what someone has already said, but when did active duty soldiers become constitutional scholars and judges of the supreme court?

    Medic07, thank you. Very refreshing.

Now, everyone, quit hi-jacking the subject: does anyone know anything about the dude, is he for real or what? He's pretty whimpy too, I thought Marines came in two kinds: big and mean or skinny and mean, never like this cry babies.

Rockatansky, I have no way of knowing if he is who he says he is or how much of what he says is true, but if you listen to what he says, he doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense. He says they were taking heavy casualties and objects to using JDAMs on the enemy. He says they were taking automatic fire from a building and feels guilty about giving an order to return fire (a Corporal, E-4, gave the order?). Could be true. What difference does it make? If I were a Marine, I'd be glad this guy is a former Marine.

The video is produced by Scott Galindez. This is what Wikipedia has to say about Scott Galindez:

Scott Galindez is a graduate of Syracuse University, a US Army veteran, and currently the managing editor of Truthout.org. For over two decades, Scott Galindez has been very actively working to achieve peace and justice in our world.
Scott's activism began at an anti-nuclear vigil in Lafayette "Peace Park" across from the White House. Scott also worked with the Washington Peace Center, the Atlantic Life Community led by Phillip Berrigan, the Community for Creative Non-Violence led by Mitch Snyder, American Peace test, and the Coalition for World Peace.
Over the years, he has also worked on the electoral campaigns of Paul Wellstone, Jerry Brown, and Bill Bradley.

I think Scott Galindez also sued Ronald Reagan. I never found out how that came out, but I doubt if he's living off the proceeds.

If you continue to search out these weirdoes, crackpots, misfits and screwballs, it's eventually going to warp your skull, if it hasn't already. [:D]

Your clarity and well supported explanation of the facts surrounding these operations should be a sticky in the politics forum.

I appreciate your service and sacrifice for this nation.

    Your .02 is actually priceless.

Rock...in answer to your questions as I see it.

I have no idea if it is fake or not. Only way to know would be if someone from the 1/23 can say "yes he was there with us" or "nope...never heard of the boy".

Could it be true and this is what he thinks? Yes. War is one of the most unnatural things that can happen to mankind. It is against our very nature to take a human life if we are truly "normal". Some deal with it quite well...others do not.

Could he have been there ordering Marines to return fire as an E4? Yes. If it bothers him, then it is a good thing he is no longer a Marine. Why? Because next time he were to go boots on the ground, he may hesitate...and that moments hesitation could cost him or worse yet his fellow Marines their lives.

My medics have a very hard time occassionally. We have to save our guys who are injured as well as the bad guys who injured them. We have dual roles...military members and professional healers. Its a tough line to have to walk at times.

Possibly the under-statement of the year.

What i want to know is... If their is full-auto MG fire,RPG's,Light weapons fire and who the hell knows what else, coming out of a building. WHAT CIVILIAN(in their right mind)PICKS THAT BUILDING TO HIDE IN?
Those people knew for MONTHS that the USMC was on their way, and they were not bringing friggin FLOWERS!!
Each and every person in said building, in my opinion, was a potential combatant!!The dude in the spanglish t-shirt is freeked out because of colateral damage. He once wore the uniform of a US MARINE,And, thankfully, he did do the right thing. ONCE!( using the rockets on that day)
By the grace of God, he is no longer in charge of anything but his own ass.

First off medic, thank you for your service.
Secondly, we have a difference of opinion. I believe only congress has the authority to send troops to their deaths, by declaring war.
Iraq: An offensive aggressive (totally against U.S. policy) war, not operation was launched to overthrow a sovereign nations government when the justification was complete lies. Money. I don't want my friends, relatives dying so that elites can gain financially, and at the same time (pay attention git er dumb) bankrupt America. I have children. The future of our nation is in serious doubt. We can't afford this!!!!

I feel Afghanistan was justified, but still should have been declared a war. I feel Iraq is not so much duty, more like coercion.

    Git er dumb:

Stand up for the innocent and weak???? NO!!! That is stupid!!! How about, stand up for (don't you have kids?) our childrens' future. A bankrupt economy is a third world economy. Is that what you want? 1.6 trillion!!! federal budget in 2000 was insane! In 2006 it was 2.7 trillion!!!! This idiot president has spent more money than any other president, EVER!!!! Reality check you boob!

BTW "sence" is not a word.

    Please do NOT vote!

P.S Yes, this guy is a worm, the marines are better off without him.

My buddy is USMC and got back earlier this year from a tour over there...he says we need to be there and finish what we started...but he also went on to say that they are making 0 progress because insurgents destroy whatever modern conveniences the Americans set up...
