tsa jobs/anybody work for them?

the tsa is advertising for screeners.i'm debating on applying. is it a crummy job? anybody? anybody? (crickets chirping)

    Well good news is I dont think you have to be overly smart to get that job.

    We were got stuck in Chicago last spring. Well when we came back in the morning we had to go back through security. The gal that was screening our line was trying to figure out how to adjust her chair and the chair was winning [V]. Of course this was going on while she was screening people.

    Pretty much the same qualifications as any government job,.......not many!
    Long lines though to get in, just like the USPS.
    If you are a minority, or even better, a female minority, you're in like Flynn!
    I am sure the benefits are really good though.

    Well, unless you really have a thing about sorting thru someone else's dirty sox and undies, listening to the idiot complain that he just HAS to carry his golf clubs aboard the aircraft, and people yelling at you to HURRY UP- I'VE GOT A PLANE TO CATCH!!! (Always loved this one- sorta like DUH! What do you think everyone else in the line is doing? Picking up pizza?)- May be a little better than working at a maximum security prison, but would REALLY need a job to consider this. PS- I fly about 150 times a year. Cannot figure out HOW some fellow passengers found the airport.

    If the benefits are anything like USPS they stink. Vets and minorities get picked first.

    Most of the starting level screener jobs are listed as part time and involve split shifts in addition to mediocre pay and few benefits.

    I personally know 5 guys that were on the Police force who went and tested for the job. None of them got one. When I saw what was hired it all became blatantly clear. They don't want anyone who knows what is going on. Do only what they say and exactly what they say and keep the "ILLUSION" of security alive.

    I applied when it started up, had 28 yrs. state LE. Didn't get it. I worked at the airport for awhile in traffic control. The people I saw that were hired in those jobs didn't give me any confidence in the system, clueless for the most part. Looks like they wanted mind numb robots instead of common sense thinkers. I wouldn't fly if I counted on most of those people to keep me safe.
