Taurus M44 a decent hunter?
I am looking at getting a 44mag for hunting. I can get a Taurus M44 with 6.5" barrel for a good price, will it make a decent hunter with a scope mounted on it?

I keep going back and forth between the M44, the Ruger Super Blackhawk and the Ruger Redhawk. I can get either of them for around $300-$400 on the auction side. Choices, Choices!!! I was also looking at a Taurus 44mag Tracker but does not seem that I can mount a scope on that one. 0 -

IMO Ruger's quality control has been going down hill for the last few years. I'd personally go with the Taurus. I just sold a Tracker with a 6.5" barrel in .44 Mag yesterday...along with 2 Judges.0 -

The only problem with the Tracker in 44mag is that I cannot find a scope mount for it. Don;t know if it's b/c of the vent rib or the ports in barrel. The Ruger Superblackhawks I've been looking at are all 90% condition made before 1985.0 -
I really really like the Taurus handguns. Their quality has gone up a LOT in the last 5-6 years. Wouldn't be afraid to take that M44 hunting nearly anywhere. 0 -
Golden, Go to the auction side and in the search type in. taurus M444 there is a gun on there for $431 new in box. I've got one in SS and love the gun. The one listed is a Taurus M444 "raging bull" 8 3/4 inch barrel, blue. They make scope mounts for it, and I can get sub 1 1/2" groups off a bag at 50ft open sight. I love mine and would recommend to anyone. The seller also has a 6 1/2 inch M444 for $422 with a $431 buy it now. I'd post a link but don't know how sorry. 0 -

I purchased a taurus Tracker in .44 mag four months ago. When I got it home I discovered the cylinder would not lock up properly. I called Taurus and asked them to schedule a pick up at my home. They told me to call back in a week. I called back to find out that they had my Brand New, never fired .44 magnum scheduled to be repaired in 3 months!!!
When I recently recieved my Taurus .44 mag, the Service Dept Invoice "POBLEM FOUND" listed: "Cylinder Stop - Adjusted" & "MISSING PARTS - Replaced". Now that inspires confidence.
I just took my recently returned Taurus .44 shooting this weekend and my face was repeatedly hit with lead shavings. I found some fairly large peices of copper jacket around my table and in the barrel, from a misalignment of the cylindar and forcing cone. Any one know how to contact management at Taurus?
P.S. My sugestion is to buy quality.0 -

I've put over 300 rounds thru my Taurus 44 and have never had a problem, however I still haven't found a scope mount for it.0 -
The question was: Any one know how to contact management at Taurus? BTW, I've had to return, all brand new, for repair: 1 Taurus .44 mag, 1 Sig P229, 1 Ruger MKII .22, 1 S&W 629 .44 mag, 1 Carbon 15 .223 3 times and 1 NAA .22 mag 3 times. All within the past 10 years. Prior to then I never had to return a new firearm for repair. I think quality at all manufactures had declined significantly. 0 -
