Need some CV joint advise

Got to replace a CV joint in Sandy's old Taurus (now being driven by my sister). I've got two prices, one for a new CV joint, one for a rebuilt CV joint. I've never dealt with these, and have no clue if the rebuilds are good or not. About $160 cheaper to go with the rebuild. Is it worth the savings or should I by the new one?

Anyone with experiece please advise! I need to decide today.

    I had rebuilds installed in my Subaru, the worked fine.
    Plus, I got a little off my bill, as they sent mine in for rebuilding.
    It is recycling.

    Have you ever bought a rebuilt starter or alternator?

    Can't see why those rebuilts wouldn't be good.

    P.S. Taurus is notorious for CV joint replacement.

    Three guys opinions I respect, so I'll save the cash and call them now. Thanks guys. I appreciate the quick response.[;)]

    They said it went bad because she hit something and tore the boot. One side is bad, the other is still good.

    Yeah, when the boot is torn, sand and grit get in there, the grease comes out, it is all over.

    I've installed rebuilt C-V's twice on two different cars and didn't have any problems either time.

    Just happened and not making any weird noise? rebuilt with new boot

    Been ripped for a while???? Replace the hole axle in question

    Are you doing it or having it done. If you are doing it make sure you mark the stuts where it bolts to the upper control arm with white paint or a marker you can see and that way it will be close to alignment when you put it back together, But you should get the front end realigned too, it may start wearing the tires. If you have the funds I would replace both axles.

    I use rebuilds a lot in my Subarus. They do fine.

    got new cv's for a taurus few months ago for a lady friend of mine at NAPA auto parts, cost me 138 each for new ones, not rebuilt.

    Just think of it as rebarreling a rifle! Same ol' rifle, just some new parts. That is all a rebuilt CV axle is, ol' shaft just with new consumables.
