anybody use NORTON (FYI)

just replaced norton anti virus with kaspersky 7.0.

seems norton had 74 trojans (not the rubber kind) on coumputer #1 and 16 on coumputer #2. [:(][:(]

    Is kaspersky 7.0 free?
    I have no antivirus, last time I downloaded one it bogged down my machine, so I dumped it.
    I might give kaspersky a try if it is free.

    i went to the avg site all i found was a limited protection was for free all the rest they wanted me to buy. may have been on the wrong page but i did not find it for free,[:(]

    here is my opinion

    regardless of the program it is only as good as its updates, if you install any new one it will find a virus that the other one may have currently missed, and vice verse, anti-virus programs have away of patting themselves on the back, and give the user a sense of security, and there are programs that do attack a particular anti-virus program, avg being the worse {look it up}

    i did a test over a few years {97-02}, i ran a computer with no anti-virus program never did it ever get a virus, i ran scans from several anti programs on it, norton, mcfee, and a few others, no virus, i put mcfee on it guess what, virues started showing up, spyware adware, i tried norton, same thing, i have come to the conclusion that anti-virus programs are like ford vs. chevy, they do the same job but it all gets down to how comfortable you personally feel

    avast is one of the antivirus programs that I downloaded. It bogged my machine something bad, so I dumped it.
    Then I tried grisoft, same thing. Bye bye to grisoft.
    I have been running the computer for 7 years with no antivirus. I am in the "ignorance is bliss" school, I guess.
    If I have a virus I can't tell any bad effects.

    Now, as for anti spyware, that is another story.
    I had one, I can't remember which, it was free, was ok. Then I got free adaware, it worked much better, but I had to run scans at least 3 times a week, what a hassle.
    Then I got Stopzilla. It costs $39 a year. This is one great anti spyware/adware program. I never have to run a scan. It works better than adaware ever did. A little over $3 a month, I wouldn't know what to do without it.
    And, if you need tech support, which I have not, they are headquartered in Florida and when you call you get an AMERICAN speaking REGULAR AMERICAN ENGLISH.

    spybot takes care of the spyware for me

    both are free and work well

    I have norton, it expires in 62 days.
    A good free anti virus sounds great to me.
    What else would I need with it? Firewalls ect.?

    I am a 19th century man. If you ever want to discuss kerosene lamps, I am your man. However, the wife has used kaspersky on our home computers for years, and is extremely happy with them. We've had no problems, so I am happy too.

    norton could never get rid of anything that it let come in. [:(]
    my first thought is why did it let it in in the first place.[:(!]
    kaspersky has let me delete the bad things [^][:D][^]
    i do have fire fox and it seems to work [^]

    You seem to have an outdated system, therefore the bogging you speak of.
    Avast has never slowed my machine at all, but then again it ain't 7 years old![:D][;)]

    that is about how long i ran it. the kids coumputer started to get slow ,had to restor it 3 times back to day 1.[:(]

    My laptop came with PCillon on it and it seems to keep everything safe but it wants to constantly restart my computer. Everytime I fire the laptop up I have to stop and restart 2 times to satisfy PCillon.

    NOD32 from Eset, updates itself daily, stops any bad stuff from getting in, kills it dead if you force it in.

    Kaspersky is the best, and it is also not the resource hog that Norton is. I have 168 days left on my Norton, and will be changing over as soon as it's expired.

    For those of you who don't know what the host file does, the site gives a detailed explaination on how it works. This is one of the free downloads on the Free Education site I posted.

    It will, however, disable some automatic links to pop open linked windows from other websites, so you loose a little to gain security.

    Norton is so bad for tossing garbage everywhere, they had to put this out from all of the complaints after uninstalls.

    To get rid of Norton you have to down load the tool. I think I found it on google. I used VirusBusters for six years, but went south on me. When I got my new pc I got rid of Norton and went with Zone Alarm. So far no problems.

    Years ago I would change my computer clock back months before the Norton software expired and they wanted another $39.95 payment. It worked for a long time until I bought Norton 2006 Ghost. When I backed my clock with 2006 it froze my HD for hours and nearly cooked it. I deleted Norton and refuse to use it. (HBO owns Norton)
    My PC runs like a champ without that BS [:p]

    so far so good looks like it is working tells me all the time it did something to something

    i can hear the little ARs and AKs blasting away in there, thought i saw a small flying thing go in the fan vent, must have been air support

    AVG (free at home) and avast (paid at work). Happy with both.

    Be sure to use a removal tool to wipe Norton completly off your hard drive.

    Be careful about "evaluation" and "rating" sites. Some have ties to the companies that receive the highest ratings.

    Here is a good reference site for free ware. It does not seem to have ties to any company. I have tried a number of his recommendations. Most have worked out really well. Gotta love the price.
