Stoopid Remington

A 30-06 Remington rifle came off pawn today. I assumed it was a 700 as most Remington bolt actions that come in. Looking at the barrel markings, it had XX as the date made. According to the code, it was made in 1951. Looking up the price for a Model 700, I realized they didn't make Model 700's in 1951. Remington doesn't put the model number on the barrels like most makers and Shooter's Bible was no help.
Finally, I grabbed an IPB that had most Remington rifles in it and located the rifle by the trigger guard assembly-it's a model 721.
It's a beautiful little rifle, Bishop European type stock, wood goes all the way to the muzzle. My only complaint is the cheap BS aluminum see-through mounts holding a BSA scope. The previous owner should have sprung for a decent mount and at least a Redfield scope.
It was a nice surprise getting a better rifle that originally thought. The action is like silk and someone will have a nice Christmas present. I love this job!

    You got a pic of it? I have a custom 721 with the mannlicher stock.

    721 and 722's had the model on the left side of the action. You call it a beautiful LITTLE but in my experiance all the 722's and 721's were quite a bit heavyier than todays models. The 722's had 24 to 26 inch barrels. They do have a smooth action. I would be interested in seeing a picture of the manlicher stock.

    What does something like that command as far a pawn loan goes?
    I am always envious of pawn shop owners, they get a lot of neat firearms.
    I would love to get another 721.

    I'll see if I can get a photo on tomorrow. Yes, it is a bit heavier than most Remingtons but the model is not listed on the weapon, above the wood anyway.

    ADDENDUM; MVP, it came in with a cami coated Remington (.22). I loaned the guy $150. to get his BIL out of jail.

    you might have to put it on GB it might look nice in my collection
    BTW I only paid $300 for my 721 from a pawn shop with a tasco on it.
