Barrel break in

Who here belives in barrel break on on a new rifle? Ive heard arguments for and against it was just curious what you fellas thought

    Since this subject comes up about every nine months. I think Saxon is absolutely correct. We need a scientific test.

    To keep peace and harmony on the board. I purpose the following to once and for all lay this mater to rest. Then we can go on to solving other problems of the world.

    If the board will provide me with two 6.5x.284 rifles. Made by either Lazzeroni, Or Pearce, Either will be fine. I will break in one barrel my way. The other will have no break in.

    After 500 rounds each. I will send them (Under heavy guard) to Beach, JustC, And Ground hog devastation. Only I will know which is which. We can then have a three way blind test.

    The results will be published for all to see. The rifles will then be returned to me. I am doing this with no personal gain in mind. Only for the benefit of the board.

    The most important things, Are not things.

    I picked up a new Savage 10 in .308 today. I have read alot on both sides of barrel break in, and decided to go with the manufactures suggestion for barrel break in procedure.
    My question is this.....What is your preferences for copper and powder solvent?

    Guess they're too busy quibbling to be listening.

    Hoppe's stuff is what I've used for about 55 years, and it has never caused a firearm of mine to fail or wear out.

    I recommend that, unless you have some very unusual operating environments.

    I use butch's bore shine and I also use the foam by gunslick both work great[;)]

    I've always used hoppe's on bores, I guess just because my dad and grandad did, and it seems to work fine. Having never tried anything else I figured there might be something else out there that was even better I was missing out on.

    my cousin got me hooked on hoppes.
    he has broke in all his guns, ranging from ar 50, ar 30, ar 10
    m1a, oa 96, min 14, kimber ruger
    his guns shoot tight groups, every single one

    I really like Sweet's 7.62 Copper solvent for the copper and use some good ol' Hoppes #9 for the powder build up. Montana X-treme is some pretty good stuff too.
