BB Gun a Deadly Weapon ?

two nights ago after dinner i saw tons of police cars on my street and an ambulance. i walked down to check it out and apparently a man was walking down my street and some kids drove by and shot him in the shoulder with a BB gun. the shooter was arrested and i read today he was charged with assualt with a deadly weapon.
i dont know what kind of BB gun but who here honestly thinks a BB gun can be lethal on a human being ? now, i know there might be a few examples but i can find a few examples of a person being killed by a thrown baseball. does that mean if the kids threw a baseball at this man they would have been charged with "assualt with a deadly weapon" ?
seems to me like they are grouping bb guns with a real deadly firearm.

    Huh!? Reminds me of when I was little and my cousins and I were having BB gun wars on the property. I got one lodged in my back over a inch deep. The rules were simple, no more than three pumps, and no head shots. Obviously someone broke the first rule[B)]

    I would rather be hit with a baseball thrown by a kid than a BB gun. where I grew up a girl was killed by a BB gun with an accidental direct hit to the heart by her younger brother. the girl was 8 and the brother was 6. VERY SAD. So yes a BB gun can be a deadly weapon.

    A man was killed in BC a few years ago with a 177 cal air rifle
    it penetrated below his scapula and cut his aorta, he bled to death in a few minutes.

    If any of you have any doubt of todays air rifles capabilities, go to www.airgunexpress.com, or www.pyramidair.com. Todays adult air rifles are not the Daisy red riders that were 30 years ago. They make them all the way up to 50 caliber, that are precharged. an example is a 45 caliber putting along a 180 grain pellet at 750 FPS. We are talking close to a 45 ACP.

    A lot of people get adult air rifle's confused with "BB" gun, especially the idiots we have in our news media centers. As one previous reply stated about those older pnuematic pmp up air guns, only 3 pumps weere allowed. today we have rifles that with a single pump, will deliver in excess of 1500 FPS. So yes, to answer the question, they are capable of killing large creatures.

    These air rifles and BB guns need to be banned. Really, there's no sporting purpose for them, they are clearly high-powered assault weapons and are the proven choice of criminals. They have these cop-killer rounds that go right through bulletproof vests. Oh yeah um the Founding Fathers never really envisioned these weapons, therefore they are not covered under the Second Amendment, which doesn't apply to ordinary citizens anyway. So there. And you're momma's ugly, too.

    At our local Wal-mart they have pellet gun that shoot 1000fps. The rounds that I shoot out of my 22cal shoot 1080fps.
    Would not want to be hit my neither.[B)]

    Hey there pal, before there was gun powder, there was air. If you look at some of Robert Beeman's collection, you will plainly see that there were mountain men who used air power to put food on their table. As far as sporting purposes there are as many as there are for for a conventional rifle, plus just one more, that does not disrupt the neighbor. I do not think you need to be giving the anti's any ammo, and if you do think so, you should bite your tongue...hopefully off!

    Shotgun had a fairly lengthy artical on air guns a couple weeks ago.
    One of the rifles shown had 1000 ft/lbs of muzzle energy.
    THAT would seriously smart!

    Lewis and Clark carried an air rifle on their expedition.
    Unfortunately, it is not known today exactly how the air rifle worked.
    It amazed the Indians to see the thing shoot.

    The (evil) NRA had an article several years ago about Lewis/Clark and their air rifle. It apparently used an animal bladder to hold the charge from a hand pump. It was used to kill a deer, an antelope and a beaver.

    Aaaaah childhood memories. I had a BB lodged in my forearm for many years, Doc finally took it out when I was about 20.
    But that was different, kids were in active engagement and we had rules. If I had shot a bystander, my hide would be tanned.
    The kids who shot the bystander should be whooped senseless. But then the ACLU would get mad.
