Cat decision and action taken
I based my actions on moral issues;
1) I live in the country, no SPCA here, I have 70 acres and shoot all the time on my own range.
2) since the cats are on my land it became my problem to solve or feed.
3) many cats were dumped here and could pose illness issues.
4) Wolf Match Target out of my barn .22 shoots one hole groups at 30 yards.
5) Four feral cats all unspayed and wild as hell took a single round in the ear over the past few hours.
6) A hot fire in the burn barrel fed by waste oil removed the problem of diease if buried.
Thanks for all your input. I feel bad for the cats but the problem will not be passed to a neighbor by me.

killing point blank is never easy and i do not look as a prideful act. but when it comes down to it somethings jsut have to be done. you will find no qualms from me 0 -
Not a fun thing to do but a necessary thing to do for the well being of your pets and any children that may be around your home. You did the right thing. 0 -
Have to keep quiet about getting rid of pest animal in Illinois. local man got charged and convicted for shooting a cat, someone claimed it was their pet. couldn't be prooved, but the animal rights people made killing a "companion animal" a felony!! 0 -
Yeah the rules about that are S>S>S> Shoot>shovel>shutup 0 -
"A Man's gotta do what a Man's gotta do."
Good for you.

Do be careful about the pet cats, though. You can usually tell them from the feral cats. If in doubt let them walk. 0 -
As i said before .It ain't pretty, it ain't fun, it ain't something you'd wanna do all the time.It is something that MUST be done. No bad feeling on my part. U DONE GOOD,by making it as fast and painless as possible..

You made the right decision, both in action and choice of weapon. Your cats will be much happier and safer with these other varmints out of the way. 0 -
B, I had the same problem as you a few years ago and solved it the same way. While I don't like cats, I also don't believe in sensless killing. BUT.....there was a situation and I handled it the best I could.
Plus....It makes for good real world hunting target practice.[:D]0 -
You could stop the problem permanently if you target whomever is dropping them off. [:0][;)] 0 -
Reasonable decision. If you decide to bury and reduce the burned waste oil smoke, bury at least 2 feet deep. The real worry is the animals being dug up by scavengers. 0 -
Between the coyotes killing your dogs, and feral cats having the run of your place it a wonder you have time to go to work.
I'm surprised someone hasn't called you a stone cold killer, but I sure won't 'O)0 -
In Florida shooting a cat can be a Felony charge..another thing is, if you dont feed them they will go away. The SPA here will not come to get a stray cat, but will come get dogs because they cause more harm to people than cats do.
I have never heard of a pack of cats attacking a fisherman, but loose dogs running in packs have many times here.0 -

No offense meant, but that is ridiculous. Glad I don't live there, either.0 -
And do they ever flop around with a head shot. But it's better than poison or slow death through disease and starvation.
Clouder..0 -
In my area feral cats, wild dogs, and pigeons are in the same class as rats, they are nuisance animals and you are allowed to kill nuisance animals. 0 -

In Florida shooting a cat can be a Felony charge.. That's what I posted on the other cat thread. All animal life is protected in FL. Cats, dogs, rabbits, you name it. You kill it, it's animal abuse...a felony.
Only exception is killing for food if done in a humane way and during legal hunting/fishing seasons.
BTW, the Santeria Church, who perform animal sacrifices to appease their Gods, had to take the issue to the Supreme Court and WON!
Base on their religious rights, they can legally kill goats and chickens during their rituals...as long as it's done in a humane fashion.
I guess we are not ONE country when the rights of animals are concerned.0 -
When my wife and I lived and worked on ranches, we shot a lot of feral cats. Always need a few to keep the vermin down in the outbuildings, but not so many that they pressured our own house cat. Folks from town would constantly drive out and resupply the countryside with kittens, which the local coyotes really appreciated.
On the other hand, we just spent a pile of money getting our young cat repaired after an infection. Cats can be varmints, and then again they can run our lives. Pretty darn versatile animal.0 -

I need to feed my own cats; (3ea.) spayed, rabies shots and all that stuff given, they live in the barn and act like dogs. I do not have house cats, I do not like cats.
Cats kill everything they can get even with a full belly. They killed dozens of birds on my feeders this summer. It was getting out of hand.0 -
Good decision. Quick and clean. I would have done the same thing and have no problem sleeping tonight. 0
