That happened to my high school girl friend's mom and dad.

There were two of them stripping 'Wild Bill' McCurley's 1956 T-Bird, that was
parked out front of their house, at 3AM one morning Saturday.

His wife 'Tootsie' awakened 'Wild Bill' from a deep sleep by saying, "Bill, there's
someone trying to steal the T-Bird!"

Bill rolled out of bed - walked over to the presentation 1911 Gold Cup - presented
to him by the US Navy in 1955 (he was the Navy Champion Pistol Shot) and proceeded
to the front porch - resting it/his hands on the side of the porch post - cleared his
throat loudly enough to be heard - the guy under the hood, was startled enough to
jump up and knocked himself out on the underside of the raised hood (about a minute
or two) and his buddy assumed the 'flight posture!' Bill said, "Don't you rabbit on me -
I'll drop you right off!" The guy froze - no doubt in HIS mind (or mine either - Bill would have, in a second) - none of that PC crap in those days - not in California, anyway. He would have probably

shot them both and planted a knife on them before the cops came - again, no doubt in my mind!

Anyway a few minutes later the cops arrived (Tootsie had called them) and before they
were cuffed and taken away, Bill informed the cops that they were "heping him out" by
putting the intake manifold, linking, and carb back on. When they were done Bill 'released
them into police custody (the cops loved old Wild Bill and they respected a real man's man
back in those days of yore - whenever ole Bill got drunk down at Doc's or the Silver Dollar
the bartenders would call the Chula Vista PD to send a unit out and escort ole Bill home - it was different then, not like today.

... I miss that ... what a difference about 45 years has made!

Anyway, Bill's parting remark was, "Sleep tight boys, I'll be seeing ya in the morning!" -
and he did - and (according to Tootsie) Wild Bill was asleep and snoring again the
second his head hit the pillow.

... Joanie was one man's daughter who always has a perfect gentleman for a date ...
nobody was EVER gonna mess with Bill's daughters (he had two)![:D]
