New Mexico elk hunt..pics
hunted on public ground...here are the results..

shot him at 13yds, he dropped in his tracks and never knew what hit him. had a cow about 5yds over my left shoulder. got him the last minute of the last day. the second morning i missed a 370-380 class bull at 180yds (muzzle loader fault...not operator error [;)])
used a 290gr Barnes MX expander with 100gr powder.

elkohol- pointers? yea...land owner tags. [;)][:D] the unit i hunted only 5%??? (its damn near impossible) get drawn. supposedly its the best unit in the state...primitive weapons only. although, one guy that was in camp got drawn his first year applying. tag is $760. good luck (im going to start applying every year)
feenix/zink - i hunted the apache national forest. i actually shot him about 1 mile from the arizona border. i guess the closest town was either luna or springerville arizona. here's where i went ( www.timberlineoutfitters.com )
rdc - you are correct, i use to live in alexandria and have now moved down to farmington. (by lakeville/apple valley if you didnt know). i get the meat today..ill see how much i get back..[;)]
he dog - got into Albuquerque on thur the 11th...ballon festival was coming to a end, i needed to get out of there ASAP. got in 1am that night and left at 6am the following morning. flew out the 18th and went straight to the airport....didnt have time to drink a beer [V][V] next time.0 -

Yep, that's an awesome area. I hunted the Rio Chama, Quemado, Zuni Mountains, and the Gila (both AZ and NM) Wilderness. Again, congrats and thanks for sharing.0 -
Very Nice. 0 -
I was afraid that was your answer. How much did the land owner tag set you back? I too plan to apply for the drawing every year. 0 -
Congrats!!!! 0 -
Congratulations, there's alot of good meat there.[:p] 0 -

i guess it depends where you go. i went 2 years ago up by the Gila and i paid 5k for the landowner tag. this place i went this past week is considered to be in the best unit in north america...so tags go for a premium price... (helluva lot more than what i previously paid). although if you draw...many people "do it" themselves. we saw several camps but they didnt have nearly the success as with hunting with a outfitter. if you know what your doing and know the area, im sure you could have some good luck.0 -
Thirteen yards? Primitive weapons? Why didn't ya use a KNIFE?
Great kill, nice trophy and a freezer full of meat. What could be better?
Congrats!!0 -

I agree with everything you said other than that ain't no primitive weapon. Scope, bipod, SS, camo stock, Pyrodex Pellets and sabot bullets(Just a guess[:D])[:o)][:o)][:o)]0 -

What do you think it will score? I'm guessing 330-340. 0 -
elko'- i couldnt even guess. 330-340 yeah id go for that. he has mass all around. i couldnt get my hand around him until his 4&5. he's broke off on the left side..will lose lots there. the taxidermist he's at now is a 'scorer' for b&c. after the drying period, he's going to let me know. 0
