Why do people do this crap? UNREAL!!
Everybody, say hello to "Ellie"! She is a purebred Siberian Husky and she came from Ohio! She is owned by someone in Iowa, who's name is not yet known. The breeder had her chipped as a puppy and kept very good records of who she sold her pups to! So the breeder gets off work at 8pm and is going to get me the name and number of the buyer. Let's hope it works out. Fingers crossed!
Well I just got a call from the last owner of the dog. She breeds/shows Huskeys. This was her dog. She bought it from the lady in Ohio. I was told this dog had a litter of pups 9 weeks ago. The owner had just placed this dog in a new home on Friday, in a town 15 miles from here. She was very upset that we had the dog, not that we had it, but that when I told her the dog had been running around since Saturday and we have had it since Sunday. She could not understand why the "new" owners had not contacted her, or even called the vet to see if anyone had reported a found dog. The lady who owned the dog acted like she didn't care if we kept the dog ourselves. No, it's not gonna work like that. From what I've been told, this is a champion show dog, this dog is papered, has won shows, and has good litters of pups. Now why, as a breeder would you get rid of a dog like that? I feel there is something not being told here and this dog is not leaving untill I know what it is. Stay tuned......

Dawnie's little dog Molly was similarly lost/abandoned and found. Sweetest little dog you could want, totally housebroken and she is Dawnie's shadow. The only thing wrong with Molly is that she was pregnant, leading me to believe that she was abandoned rather than lost.

GNP: givette here. You did good. Check with the local vet to see if there is a poster up. But first..did the dog show evidence of a collar removed? Was it emaciated do to lack of food the first day you found him/her? Any other abuse signs? Is the dog wary, or did it come right up to you in a trusting manner? I'm asking, because you might be able to tell if the owners abandoned it.
One more thing, once you "advertise" the dog as lost, is there a way to eliminate those people claiming it as theirs when it really isn't? That's a tough one. I can't answer that. Good luck! I can't tell if she had a collar or not as her fur is so thick. Our local vet here is closed Monday, so today we'll go see him. No she does not show any signs of abuse but I do think she was a little thin when I found her. As far as wary, oh yes, very much. But a few hotdogs and some coaxing got her to jump in the car. Now she won't leave me alone![:)]
We don't know what we are going to do about the poster thing. I guess if someone owned the dog and wanted to claim it, a photo of the dog may do. Plus this dog is smart enough that I think it would respond to her real owner.
We'll see what the day brings.

Well what a differance a few days will make. This dog is a true sweetheart. She is starting to trust me and I'm sure she's feeling a lot better as she has had free-choice dogfood for the last two days. She is peppy and likes to play. If I'm working in the shop and she wants to go out she will "talk" to me like Chewbacca. It's funny as hell. And this just kills me, if you bend down to her to say hello, she will give you puppy kisses. I'm off to the Vet now to see if he has any idea who she may belong to. I sure hope I can find her home. Someone HAS to be missing her.

Everyone jumped on the "She was dumped" bandwagon, it got me to thinking maybe the truck was driving slow past your house looking for the dog.
She may have been dumped, but it seems a bit odd to me the way you have described her.0 -
Well Smokeeater I agree with your thought About them looking for the dog. I don't know if you live out in the country or not, but this is about the 20th time a animal has popped up here! In fact, I kid you not, we have a new black cat as of last week. Yep, it's a house cat, want's in everytime you open the door. And it won't leave. We'll le him stay, he seems nice enough. Who knows how he got here.
The point is it happens all the time, and this dog seems to fit the pattern. But maybe not. If this dog has gone missing, we will know soon enough as we are taking her to town and have the vet check her out.

I think its great that Doug stepped forward too! A picture was posted here almost 3 yrs ago by IDS and the following weekend I was driving 14 hours to pick the dog up. He kept my feet nice and warm last night! All 75 lbs of him! There is something about a person having an immediate bond with an animal that cant be replaced. I hope you give Dougs offer a chance if you dont find her previous family.0 -
Well here's the update if anyone cares. We went to the vet, no luck on anyone reporting the dog missing. We are going to take her to town tomorrow to see if she has a chip. We also put up flyers around town and have told everyone out in the country we have found this dog. Tomorrow I will call the newspaper and place an ad. Still hoping....

Our dog is a 110# Lab/Rottwiller mix. He has always been a gentle creature, but looks like a he coud be trouble, makes the wife feel safe. Now is 12 yrs old. Got him as a dropoff in the neigborhood when he was less than 1 yr.old. Heard a story that the "boy friend" was going to shoot him so his girl friend dropped him off in our neighborhood. He's has always been the best! Getting old now and it will be a sad event for us when...

There is a chance the dog is lost, but I bet not. We'll keep her around for a few weeks and try to locate home. If not, well maybe we'll just keep her here and find her a good home. I'm pretty sure that if this is a missing dog, there's gonna be someone looking for her.

Unless she is a lot larger than her photos indicate, she is a RED Siberian Husky, as Sweetie was.
They seem to be a lot more prevalent in the Southeast than anywhere else in the country.
I can look in her eyes and tell that she needs either you or me.

Huskies are known to run away, even if well trained. I wouldn't be surprised if someone is looking for this one. 0 -
Never owned a husky, but my malamute was prone to do such, too. He would break away (happened once or twice) and be gone for days, frantic calls to the SPCA and local vets... He never wandered more than a half mile from home, and always some well-intentioned person took him in temporarilly, and we would pick him up and bring him home. 0 -

It's heading nowhere right now. As long as the dog is here, she's gonna get treated just like she was my dog. I have to walk her as she is being kept in my heated shop. She is housebroke and she needs to do her duty. Besides, she like to play in the snow, it's kinda fun too! I have no intentions of keeping this dog for myself. This is somebody's dog. I just have to take care of her untill I find out who that somebody is.

Way to go for the trouble you have gone to,.....most would not.
Just make sure that you feel the folks out, so to speak, when you get contact info.
Go with your gut, is all I can say.
I once picked up a Jack Russell, in a horrible lightning storm, on my way to pick up a date.
Obviously it ruined my date,.......not really, she thought I was great for taking the time to pick up a lost dog cowering in the street![;)]
I posted signs again, and a newspaper ad just like with the Huskie I found.
No one called, and after 2 weeks I gave her to that girls grandparents. They kept her until she passed on, at a ripe age.
A guy finally called, and he was a breeder. I could tell the dog had been mistreated, as every time I took out a broom to sweep the patio, the dog would cower.
I told him it was too late,.......the dog was gone, and I had no contact info for the folks that took her.
I also told him that I knew he had abused the dog,......he hung up on me.
End of story!0
