You are in for a long, miserable life if your girlfriend is already dictating what you can and cannot purchase...[xx(]
If I misunderstood, and she is going to make the purchase, I apologize![:)]0 -

I took it as SHE was going to buy it.
1st. My thoughts are this. She's buttering you up for marriage. Expensive gifts from Girlfriends usually come w/strings attached.
2nd: If you don't marry her, enjoy it while you can. Women are vindictive and almost always demand expensive gifts be returned in the event of a breakup.0 -
a real girlfriend (huntin buddy) would have bought you both 0 -
Sounds like a keeper, but if you are worried she is an indian giver... pawn it, then buy it back a few days later, so it's in your name.
otherwise, save up for a rifle that is accurate past 100 yards[;)]0 -

I cant resist I wish I had a girlfriend that would buy me a gun for christmas. Out of the two I did have on christmas's over the years the first one got me a pair of jumper cables. (What a bad gift for a person but I did use them) The second one I had over christmas The one you all know either didnt get me anything or never gave it to me But then again that was the christmas car crash and we were both incapacitated She never got her gift from me either (which was hugely expensive on my part) But then again I didnt go pick it up by then either. 0 -

Neither. Remington CDL is the way to go. http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_rifles/model_700/model_700_CDL_specs.asp0 -

First off, let me say, what a girl!
Definitely a keeper.
Secondly, I'll add another rifle, one that I want badly....
Tikka T3 Varmint or super varmint. Action is like butter.

Just looked at one of them Tikka varminter's today Cubs. Boy are them babies nice![:p] I think that I will have to take my time with this decision. I am already re-thinking my caliber choice because I really would be better off with a smaller caliber and I am not sure about a heavy bbl. or not anymore. I took a look at one of the new Ruger Hawkeye's today and I really like the looks and feal of them and they had one in a .22-250 which would go well with my heavy-bbl. .22-250 I have. The heavy bbl. for the range and prarie dog hunting and the Hawkeye for carrying around the back forty.

Is she your girlfriend or your budget-approving authority? First of all, what you buy with your money is your business and shouldn't require approval from the gal you love. Now, once you're married, most major monetary decisions should be mutually agreed upon. However, my wife and I both have discretionary spending accounts. I don't question what she buys with hers (although the endless parade of shoe purchases drives me crazy!) and she doesn't hold sway over mine. Sounds to me like you need to have some serious discussions about your pre- and post-marriage spending arrangements. Do it now and save yourself a ton of misery later. If not, take both rifles and dump the girlfriend. Remember, there are dozens of reasons why guns are better than women!!! *S* 0 -

They are sweet man. Is it just going to be a varmint gun? Thought of a 243 at all?0 -
Sorry, I missed the fact that she was buying the gun for you as a gift. Your initial choice of words was misleading. Nonetheless, everyone beware of the gal who questions your gun ownership or your hobbies that include guns. I'm so sick of the modern female anti-gun mentality--"all guns are evil...no guns around my children....only perverts hunt and harm animals....etc." If your girlfriend supports your gun hobbies, marry her now. If she's just stringing you along until the ring is on the finger, run like a Pronghorn in the other direction. Oh, and enjoy the rifle. 0
