I kill bugs, too, but I don't torture them. If your post is legit, you have some serious issues that need to be addressed. [:(]

That would be merciful. I'm more concerned about the tweezers he's gonna use to pull my legs off just to enjoy watching me flop around. [:(!]

The especially dry summer was perfect for the breeding of deer flies. They were so big that I got out some old 22 shot shells and started shooting them on the wing. One day, I wounded one and had to track it down in the puckerbrush. I followed the blood trail into a swamp where the wounded fly was waiting. I shot it through the head when it attacked. Soon, all the flies, mosquitoes, and gnats moved away. Sometimes, you just have to get their attention.

Ticks? When I lived in Arkansas, ticks were always a problem. We often had a fire going outside in the evenings, and I would pull ticks off my dog and toss them in the fire, where they sizzled and popped. Absent a handy fire, I would put a half inch of gasoline in a coffee can and just toss the ticks in there.

Wasps? I hate wasps. They like to build in sheltered, almost hidden areas and then get all pissed off when a foolish human disturbs the nest. The long range aerosols work well.

Carpenter bees I like to swat with a badminton racket.

For fire ants (!) I carry a shaker can of Orthene with me when I mow. When I find a mound, I dose it as I go.

For spiders I like WD-40 and a lighter, it kills them amd burns up there home without being hot enough to catch anything else on fire.

when I was a kid we were having problems with ants in the back yard. So I went through the house and mixed every liquid I could find, then I mixed several types of powders to that liquid. That mix killed the entire colony, but the problem is that nothing has ever grown in that spot again, it's just dirt, and that was near 30 years ago.

Thanks for the into Colt my friend.[^] While I am not a PETA person I do not tend to kill things, and certainly do not torture them. black widows are very common where I live, and those on the house get killed to keep them out. Those in the rock walls aroud the yard get ignored. Jumping spiders, beetles, other spiders and moths are taken out and released, flies are killed. Not fond of ticks and I kill those, but do not de-leg and starve them. I also dislike chiggars, but seem powerless to affect them in any satisfactory way. Fortunately they do not occur here, and I have to travel to pick them up. Roaches however, are in a category all their own. The only good one is a long, long dead one. But again I don't pull their legs or wings... I presume that was humor Spurgemaster? Do you set fires too?[}:)]

I leave the bugs alone, if they will leave me alone.
Now the tick who is gonna suck my blood, or my dog's blood, and give us Lyme disease, he is gonna die.
Carpenter bees that will eat my log house, got to die. I have killed 74 in a single day with the badminton racket. Also, the Ruger Single Six and rat shot are murder on the carpenter bees, range up to 18 feet.
If a person is actually torturing insects to death, he should seek psychiatric counseling.

I hate them little fruit flys. I wish they would all die. Ticks are a bug that don't squish very easy. You about have to do it like nunn said. I either put them on a nonflammable surface and use a Bic as flamethrower until they pop, or put them on a hard surface and cut their little heads off with a pocket knife.

Now I hate roaches as much as anybody. I think they need to be hunted down and killed. However, roaches do take a bad rap. If they were anywhere near as nasty as their reputation says they are, we would all be dead.

Yes, it was a little annoyed humor. I get pretty crabby about the flies about this time of year.

I have done everything I said about ticks except de-limb them. Taping them to a surface (in a notebook, actually) was--as I said--to preserve the 'evidence' in case I came down with Lyme disease when working for the Feds. Everything else was just the most hassle-free way to kill them.

Fires? It really seems like I ought to be able to remember getting into trouble over a fire at least once in my life but the best I can recall is that time I got ridiculed for using the fire extinguisher at a restaurant. I claimed it was a grease fire under the range. My boss said it was a garbage fire that could have been controlled much more tidily than with an extinguisher....we never did agree on that.

Sorry but I see no difference between a wasp nest and a feral cat. Both are removed efficiently and effectively.

Spurgemaster I was having a little fun of my own at your expense. Serial killers almost always have a history of animal torture and setting fires. Sorry![:I]

Bugs in the house die in the house - like burglars.

The only bugs outside that I mess with are hornets. They build their nests in tunnels underground. I dump gasoline in the holes and run like hell. Come back later and burn the nests.

Bumblebees and yellow jackets build ground nests, hornets build large paper nests in trees like this: http://www.ipm.iastate.edu/ipm/iiin/node/167

quote:Any of the above brings me a sense of pleasure, thinking of the death of the tick You need to get a job as an exterminator. I think it would be a very satisfying and rewarding job for you. Just think you could be the SWAT of exterminators, better yet the C.I.A. of bugs. They could make a special unit for yourself.[;)]

I quit messing with wasp when I learned what an efficent predator they were on garden pest. Being air mobile, they visit death upon all types of catepillers that attack tomatoes. I once saw a squadron of wasp make short work of the worms after I used a fishing pole to knock a bag worm nest from a pecan tree! [:p]

The spiders go for crickets and grasshoppers and I root them on. There is something about spiders that all pawnbrokers must admire. They spin their web and their victims wander into it only to be trapped and sucked dry. [:0]

I don't usually bother an ant bed unless they break the truce by biting me. Then the Zyklon B (for Bug) becomes their Final Solution. [}:)]

A person can spend a lifetime sitting in a garden watching the drama. [;)]

We keep a few sticky pads around the baseboards in a few rooms and it don't take em long to fill up with almost every kind of bug imagineable. One of the slight inconveniences of living in the sticks.

I only kill the ones that are venomous, or are currently biting me, or are just buzzing around and flying in my face and stuff.[8D]
