Scholars confirm plans for N. American Union

Those who seek to understand what's behind the chatter about President George W. Bush's Security and Prosperity Partnership as a possible prelude to a North American Union, similar to the European Union, should read the 35-page white paper published recently by the Hudson Institute called "Negotiating North America: The Security and Prosperity Partnership."
The Washington, D.C., think tank is blunt and detailed in describing where the Security and Prosperity Partnership is heading.
Here's how Hudson defines the Security and Prosperity Partnership's goal: "The SPP process is the vehicle for the discussion of future arrangements for economic integration to create a single market for goods and services in North America."
The key words are "economic integration," a phrase used again and again, into a North American "single market," another phrase used repeatedly.
"Integration" with Mexico and Canada is exactly what North American union means, but there's a big problem with this goal. "We the people" of the United States were never asked if we want to be "integrated" with Mexico and Canada, two countries of enormously different laws, culture, concept of government's role, economic system and standard of living.

fshfndr: Well said. We fought many wars to keep this same thing from
happening but people forget too soon. We are/were a nation with out
binding ties. Now suddenly this may change. Not due to the peoples will but for the politicians and wealthy bussiness wills. We done just plain been sold out for money. This will bring us down to a third world
countries class like Mexico who will benifit from it. Even though 85

Others here have expressed my exact feelings about globalism, the world being a village, or a neighborhood -- whatever you care to call it.
Very few countries in this "neighborhood" have the least desire to even try to emulate what we are. Frankly, what we represent is dangerous to the status quo in most countries -- including many that actually share many of our values. It will not be expected that our neighbors down the block will rise to our level of freedom and tolerance; and, in order that their subjects not be exposed to too much in the way of tempting ideas, we will be expected to tone down and, in some cases, do away with those things that have made our nation the flawed but still great country it is.
More simply put, what sort of village or neighborhood is it where the folks down the block want to kill you and your family for having a higher standard of living and more open society than they do?
I know this originated as a discussion of a North American integration, but, going on the highly unlikely premise that this is a good idea and that nothing more is intended beyond a North American integration, it will be regarded by many as merely a precedent for bigger and better things.
And, no, no one has asked or seems to care how I feel about this.0
