Ah, the magical, almost soothing sound of those simple words..yet HOW they ring out in a clarion call for redress of grievences...

HOW they can bite us...AND this country...on the Az.

Here in Okla., the legislature actually got off its dead butt and passed an illegal barbarian law.
No hiring,no renting houses, police actually get to ask "You legal ?"

So the Catholic Church announces that they intend ignoring the law.

Yes, bucky..the Good Church...unable to gather courage to do much about infringes on the Second Amendment..save call for gun control..unable to summon up courage to efectively fight the murder of millions of babies...unable to call for an ending of corruption in elected officials...
DOES see fit to throw their weight behind massive infestations of barbarians.
Well..they too will be consigned to the trash heap of history..them and their homosexual priests.
Surely, people able to think beyond Pavlov's dogs' level will take note.

    AHA!

So then, in order to be the one true church, you must ippsy-dippsy disobey the one true bible....

To wit: "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are of God.'

'Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation." Romans 12:1-2.

Interesting isn't it? that the civil authority asking people who live here, to do so legally, should be an 'ordinance of God', hmmmm?

And that to resist that authority should lead to 'damnation'.

Highball, imagine for a moment that you are an up standing citizen, making a positive contribution to society (I know this is tough, but hang in with me a moment) by operating a service oriented business. Now, let us imagine that the largest segment of your customer base was Latin American. Let us further suppose in this foray into fantasy, that your state, let's call it, I don't know, say Oklahoma, passed a law saying no one could do business with Latin Americans. What would you do?

Such a magnitude of errors in these few sentences.

Back 35 or so years ago, I rented houses, apartments, ect..to live in. I NEVER got to rent a place without proving my 'bonifides'..drivers licenses, ect.

NOBODY..except the Rascists among us..has made it illegal to 'do business ' with 'Latin Americans"..your protests to the contrary, only those seeking to divide us along racial lines could POSSIBLY draw
    the conclusions you have.

The police are merely turned loose to do their JOBS..black, white, grey or purple people will now be asked for proof they are citizens.

Landlords are asked to actually get some proof..like they used to, before the dollar became King..greed trumping EVERY thing for some people..that the people they rent to actually belong here. What a concept !!.
The other consideration being..if your customer base is comprised of CRIMINALS...perhaps you really OUGHT to find a different business.

Higball, you missed the point. Latin Americans are the single largest segment of the Catholic Church. Send them all home and who is gonna make those tithes and offerings?

    Is that simple enough?

He Dog;Yup...I completely missed your point.

I stand charged and convicted; in my eagerness to argue I looked for what wasn't there.
    My apologies, Sir.

By proclaiming what they have proclaimed, the church has not made a move to protect its money stream in Oklahoma, it is making a political statement, one that defies the laws of that state. The church in Oklahoma should lose it tax-free status, as should have the church in Illinois for providing sanctuary for two years.

I tire of supporting the shenanigans of the Catholic Church, the Unitarians, most Pentecostal Churches, etc. RICO should have been used to close down the Catholic Church in the U.S. for harboring sexual predators. It should now be used to close down any entity that provides sanctuary. Any church that distributes a voters pamphlet should lose its federal and local tax-free status.

'Give unto Caesar' has been turned into 'Stick it to Caesar', with all taxpayers footing the bill.

So Don, would you also support a law saying that the second amendment provides only for the raising of a milita by the states and that citizens have no rights to gun ownership?

Sometimes perhaps it becomes necessary to engage in Civil Disobedience..... the title of Highballs thread.

The line appears to be in different places for different folks, and I think the church would likely stand behind what it says, while trying to beat the rap leaglly. Also in the tradition of the mafia that led to Rico in the first place. Not that I disagree with you.

    Umm..Hedog;
You married ? posting this in a open forum MIGHT be injurious to your health, if so.. quote:We can get Thai after I am single..so it would be legal for me 'get thigh'..(I of course, assume you merely misspelled that fine old American word..)..Luckily, being only an "Oklahoma gentleman", I have a goodly amount of latitude concerning personal conduct. [:D]

Looking forward to when you can get over here.

I think it two different concepts. I am unaware of any Constitutional allowance for the harboring of a fugitive from justice. I suppose one could severely stretch the free exercise of religion concept, but it becomes relative, as there would be no such allowance if, for example, the church had decided to provide Timothy McVeigh with sanctuary.

You will remember that Civil Disobedience in the 60s over Civil Rights and in the 60s and 70s over Viet Nam rightly landed a large number of people in jail. Civil Disobedience has never been a free pass to break the law, rather it has used the repercussions of breaking the law to effect change.

Actually, the church may have an historically vested interest in their stance to the new ordinance. Mexico is what it is today, a third world country, with a steady drain of it's own people and resources northward, and with a terrible abyss between the 'haves' and 'have nots', primarily because of the church.

The United States was settled and set upon it's course by independent, pioneering types of individuals who were perfectly willing to stand alone against all odds if need be. And they certainly stood against the Catholic church, time and time again.

Mexico was settled and set upon it's course by Catholic priests who made the people of that nation into vassals, chattels and overall subservient to the higher, that is the 'churched', classes. They exacted ten percent of the peoples' income, made them serve as unpaid labor building 'churches' and other religious buildings, and took all initiative and individuality away from them.

Those old movies where the people of the little Mexican towns stand fearfully by while outlaws and brigands exact all kinds of meanness upon them...may be telling more truth than one might think.

So, given the historical context, maybe the church feels they owe to the poor of Mexico, a hand-up, after their dismal failure with three hundred years of social engineering in Latin America.

(Much of this information was taken and paraphrased from the book THE LAST FRONTIER by Walter Scott Webb, circa 1955), which examines the history of Mexico versus that of the United States at great length).
