Gun photo question?

Okay maybe stupid with a simple answer, but

Why do most all photos of pistols have something,through the trigger?
IE. pencil, pen, shotgun rnd, plastic tube, or wood dowel?
Is it to give the photo depth? or is there another reason?

    that is to tilt them at an angle so the photographers head doesn't cast a shadow from the light bulb on the ceiling.

    really? thats interesting. so it is just for clarity of the photo?
    thats what I sort of thought seeing all the diffrent objects people use to do that,

    I have seen the same thing in gun shops and gun shows and it is just the easiest no slip way of angling them towards the viewer.
    if the just proped them up against a 2x4 they would eventually slip and fall flat again.
    The rod, pen, 50bmg round through the trigger guard keeps them at an angle and wont slip.

    It is very simple and effective I can see for photos and for display.
    It really makes the pistols stand out better in the photos. and I can see how it would be easier to see a gun in a display case done the same way.
