Anyway, I just felt like sharing something.
Thought I'd get this gift for a girl I met a lil' while ago:
It's a little Xmas ornament I thought she might like (she plays hockey and recently scored her first goal).
Should come in the mail soon so I can catch her and give it to her before winter break!

The US and Canada are so much alike in so many ways, what would y'all think if the two countries combined into one and made International Falls or Sault Ste Marie the capitol? 0 -

The two countries are not in fact that much alike, except that most of the population of each is of European decent. Would we make English the official language of Quebec? 0 -
The Canadians could of had the best of the world:
American technology
British culture
French food
But in sted they ended up with:

American culture

Canada and the USA are in fact two very different countries. I have a dual citizenship and will probably go back to Canada in retirement. The gun registry thing is a major hassle and waste of time and money, but it has a lot to offer to the outdoorsman. Too bad winter is so long. We lived in Quebec for ten years and New Brunswick for seventeen years and loved the people of bot of those provinces! Boston is OK, but we are headed back to Canada at some point! 0 -

My one trip to Canada was ruined at the border by an overzealous, barely-out-of-his-teens law enforcement dweeb with an attitude about Americans who own guns. He did everything but tell us the name of the excessively affectionate lumberjack who'd be sharing cells with both my wife and me, if we didn't fess up and admit we were smuggling guns for criminal use into his country. We didn't have a one in the truck, just an NRA sticker on the back window.
The NRA's fault, I'm sure....
One strike and you're out, with me. Canada's fine right where it is, and no closer. I wouldn't spend a dime to finance their government, not as a tourist, not as a hunter, not under any circumstances, and I find it odd that so many allegedly pro-gun Americans can rationalize doing so.
Hmm, methinks I'm still a tad bit hacked off. Maybe I ought to let it go -- one of these days (reference to another thread [:D]).0 -

I am so sorry that "mongrel1776" did not have a better experience crossing the border into Canada. I've been going back and forth across the border for thirty one years now and have never had a problem except a few times lately we did have to wait a bit. I did not have any NRA decals on any of my vehicles. When I do bring guns, I sure do have all the paper work. It is a real bummer that they would try to get you to fess up to something that you never did!
I still think both countries are great for different reasons. Bottom line: we should seek to be good neighbours!0 -

The suggestion that we merge with Canada hit me wrong.
Looking back on it -- calmly -- I put my experience down to one twit with a uniform, a badge, and what he apparently saw as a mission. I'd be equally irate -- have been, in fact -- if an American police officer or security guard pulled the same sort of stunt.
The many other Canadians we encountered on that first and probably last trip were decent people. I was being serious, in my sarcastic way, at the end of my previous post -- I ought to get over it. I'll never go back to Canada, for reasons already stated, but that being the case I ought to stop being mad at one inconsequential wannabe who by now has probably been demoted to doing body-cavity searches or something equally pleasant.0 -

We ran into the same problem on a fishing trip up to the Williams Lake area. The guard, who happened to be female, fired the same questions over and over again about gun ownership and did we have guns in the truck. Also wanted to know if we owned guns in the US and how many? All on the video camera of course.
Friends from Florida ran into the same problem. They made a old guy with major heart trouble take part of the dash out of his Cadillac to prove he was not hiding a firearm.
Interesting approach to gun control!
But Illegals, no problem let them in, they fit the PC profile.
The people, away from the border, very nice and easy to be with. I am amazed that a country with such an outdoors culture would allow itself to be stripped of its right to self protection, following the lead of England. This movement, I believe, was driven by the same person that lead the movement that stripped England and Australia of their rights. She has tried to push the UN to follow the same lead and Bolton told her to go to hell. Forget her name but she is dangerous to our sport.0 -

Her name is Rebecca Peters. She is, if I'm not mistaken, Australian, and has been encouraged by far too many Americans in her delusion that what she thinks of our country and way of life actually matters. I feel much the same way about the citizens and governments of any other country that has a problem with the way things are done here. If a tourist or diplomat from a nation with different rights and values than our own finds the United States a dangerous place to visit, the one thing we do not use guns for, here, is to force anyone to set foot in this country. Stay home, where the laws make you safe, and the next time there's a World War, depending on which side you take, this nation of gun-toting barbarians will either whip your butts or save them -- again.
I felt the need to add -- this is why I won't go back to Canada. I don't agree with their views on gun control, but it's their country. As I insist that other nations respect our rights and way of doing things, I am obliged to extend the same respect to them. So, I stay away (finances make that a foregone conclusion [:D]), because I refuse to stop being an American and will not be treated badly on account of it.0
