eBay communication

Just received an e-mail from eBay, reminding me that back in July I bought a set of musket barrel bands, and informing me that "more treasures await" me.

My reply, FWIW: "I beg to differ. No treasures await me. You banned 90% of the items I utilize auction sites for. 'Musket barrel bands' hold gun barrels to gun stocks. Do the math. Then take a flying leap."

I was assured when I requested that my registration on eBay be cancelled, that I'd be contacted in person to learn why I wished to leave and what might be done to persuade me to stay. To date, no such communication -- not that I expected any. I'm also still waiting on the end of the YEAR-LONG process of cancelling, during which time I'm sure I'm counted as one of the zillions of loyal members of the eBay family. [:(!]

    I wonder if they'd ever listen. Maybe an organized massive public action would do something, after all eBay is a huge marketplace which is driven by people who use it, the concept they seem to have forgotten.

    ...and, of course, a second e-mail informs me that responses to their e-mails will not be received. Apparently, you have to actually go on the eBay site to communicate with them, and, since I'd sooner have a testicle crushed with a pair of pliers (and was not-too-nicely asked to simply leave, when I actually did voice my disapproval of their new gun-parts-policy, back when they announced same), folks there will continue existing in blissful ignorance of how I feel about their company.

    All of the above is based on the probably mistaken notion that anyone other than the idiot writing this cares what I think.... Oh, wait a minute -- I just checked and he doesn't care, either.

    Yeah it is too bad the Ebay quit selling gun related items. Now I have no idea where to get my gun stuff. Can anyone help me out on this on? I sure wish there was a quality gun auction site that is cheeper then Ebay. I wish this good gun site would be more user friendly then Ebay too. Does anyone know, I feel lost. [?][?][?]



    UPDATE:
    I guess some people know know scarcasam (sp). GB is the ONLY site I use for my gun stuff and has been so for over 4 years now.

    I find it very sad that so many on here have complained about Ebay not selling gun stuff. What is the problem? Here is a great site that not only is happy to have us buy and sell gun stuff but gives us this very cool forum to use for free too. So far the only problem I see is that there were people that for some reason decided to sell gun stuff on Ebay other then right here.

    Why don't you go complain that Kroger doesn't sell firearms and ammo.

    Well, given the updated version of the previous post, this one makes no sense.

    apples and oranges,
    Kroger sells items they can sell in decent volumes and get a profit on; an auction site facilitates the sale of items by their users, they gain and/or lose nothing by a seller not being able to move merchandise. It is a political statement, not an economically logical move.

    I'm not really sure what ebay's new pollicy is. Seems to me the only things I've noticed they aren't selling anymore are EMPTY shell casings, and bullets. It doesn't make much sense seeing as they still list for sale airsoft guns and paitball markers.

    I got the sarcasm in your original, unmodified post. Maybe you didn't get the sarcasm in mine.

    I didn't know about this site, back when. Of course I like this site. There still isn't the amount of muzzleloading stuff on here that there was on eBay, but that's changing, and meanwhile I'm better off not being tempted by yet another potential bargain I can't pass up.

    I won't sadden anyone any further by ever mentioning my opinion of eBay again, and I apologize for having done so, if in the process I wasted anyone's time.

    Speaking up (civily) in their buyer/seller forims may carry more weight, as i know they do have personel that monitor and reply in those.[:)]

    Their forums were the cause/source of my having it suggested that I just leave. Myself and some others did express our displeasure with the new policy, eBay's stated reason for it (the Virginia Tech shootings), and the abruptness with which it was to be enacted. In regard to others' posts, I can't speak, but I feel confident that anyone who's read much of what I've written on this forum -- even in response to persons whose opinions I absolutely disagree with -- will agree that I can and usually do express myself in a civil manner. Unfortunately, the position I took on the eBay forum was, in and of itself, coming from an avowed pro-gun standpoint, intolerable to a number of other posters. The responses of some were a little less than civil, to put it mildly. I was getting steamed, but hadn't yet cut loose with anything rude, when I received a fairly polite but very to-the-point e-mail informing me that my political views had no bearing on eBay's business decisions, that my quarrelling with other eBayers who disagreed with my stance was inappropriate, and that it seemed to the author of this message that my principles would dictate that I just leave -- so why didn't I? Said e-mailer identified himself as someone working for eBay, not merely a fellow bidder or seller. Can't recall the name, and, lacking the printer capability to make a hard copy on toilet paper, to be used at the next appropriate opportunity, I simply deleted the message and split, wandering in the cyberwilderness until I found haven here. Thanks for the welcome, by the way -- and that is not sarcasm.
