I still think the .50BMG reigns king. Many different loads for the .50, while the .416 has only a solid brass bullet. The BMG also has about 13,000ftlbs pf energy, while the .416 has only about 9,000ftlbs.

Probably up to a mile but from what I've read the .416 has a better ballistics coefficient and performs better at extreme ranges.0 -

It's comparable to the .50 BMG and an excellent choice for 1,000-yard match competition. Easily formed from .50 BMG brass, the 510 DTC EUROP cartridge is .100-inch shorter than the .50 BMG and has an 18&Mac251; degree shoulder compared to 15 degrees for the BMG, with diameters of .760-inch and .715-inch, respectively.
Thus, the 510 DTC EUROP cartridge will not fit in a .50 BMG chamber, and the .50 BMG cartridge will not fit in a 510 DTC EUROP chamber. Importantly, the 510 DTC EUROP is California legal. .416 Barrett = 400 grain projectile, 3250 fps muzzle velocity.
Ive heard the projectile is solid turned brass from some and others that it is solid tungsten, any way it is really really hard material.

The way I read it is the round drops 14 feet for every 3000 feet travled. If your zero at 100 yds then youll be dead on at 1000 yds..
Yes the bullet drops 14 feet, in the 3000, but youve compensated for that when you sited your scope at 100. thats the way i see it

but the muzzle velocity is already about that of a .223. if you think about the BC and how it takes energy squared to get an increase in velocity, they aren't ever going to get the trajectory up to par with the other calibers. looks like the lower .300's is the upper limit for long range shooting. unless you don't have a problem shooting it like a mortar.0 -
I'd take a .338 Laupa over a .416 any day of the week, unless there's some need for all that extra terminal power. 0 -

yeh... if you're zeroed for 200 yds, the trajectory would improve. but not a whole lot. you're just aiming the barrel uphill a little more.0 -

at 1000 yards it does drop 14 feet
but will .223 through .338
penitrate 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick steel plate clean, and split the man standing behind it in half?

This round I think is made mostly for takeing out long range targets effectivly, that are behind solid material.
all other rounds may hit there mark but just ping off, targets even the 50 cal can only split through, the 416 cuts clean at longer ranges and with thicker plates0 -
