open range shooting in orang county ca.
being the type of guy that i am , i HATE rules , i enjoy taking responsibility for my own safety, and hate having to shoot and hold fire at the command of some range master, i much more prefer to get out into the open and set up my own targets in my own fashion
so i enjoy the out of the way open ranges
trouble is ive moved to orange county , ca.
and there aint poop out here in the way of an open range
unless one of you guys can help me out

Sorry, but you are probably very limited in that respect. You are now behind enemy lines, you know. [:0][:0] You may have to take the bad with the good and alter your life style a little like the rest of us in California do. Enjoy it while you can. [:)][:)] At least you can still shoot........[:)][:)] Good luck in your quest for a complety open range.

I have only been here for 2 months and I hate it already. Glad I will only be here for a year. 0 -
My brother lives down south there. He goes out into the desert near the US-Mexico border. The border patrol has talked to him a few times but nothing ever came of it.
The way I see it, they should appreciate it.... screw a wall, the entire US-Mexico border should be a free public shooting range- That just might deter those illegals from crossing.0 -
I know there are some ranges in the mountains, but all are closed right now do to it being dry. Really I think they are closed cause they don't want anyone shooting there. 0 -
Do what I did - buy a few acres and shoot on your own property.

A few acres in OC would cost you a cool million or two. There used to be an open shooting area around the Cleveland National Forest, but about 15 years ago some very careless folks were shooting at metal targets using steel core rifle ammo in an area which had not been cleared of brush! The resulting sparks triggered a very large brush fire and that was the end of open shooting. 0 -

I've invited any GB member who wants to come up here to visit with me to come up. zipperzap and Sig232 have visited.
If you do come, I'll give you and your guests a free tour of the Evergreen Aircraft Museum, home of the Spruce Goose. Take a look at the website: www.sprucegoose.com
Give me a little lead time and do it.

I think thats the place I go to. Its about 75 miles from my house in San Diego, it would be significantly farther from OC. Is there any place out there by Banning? There is a lot of open space there. My dad is in a retirement home there and I was thinking of doing some plinking after I visit him. Anyone know of a shooting spot out by there?0 -

Everything out by Banning has been closed due to fire damger, go further out along the 10, past the Patton Muesuem and you'll have all the open shooting you can dream of. Or if that is two far you can always take the 15 north, just past Yermo you also have nothing but open desert for free shooting, plus the jack rabbits are looking good out that way too.0 -

Not true..... The West End Gun Club is open. It is in the mountains near where Lytle Creek and the 15 cross. Iam a member there and shoot 3-gun matches there all the time.
Also, Orange County has an ordnance prohibiting shooting anywhere except at an approved range.0 -
i went out to the open range in the hills of mt. san jacinto south of banning saturday and sunday and there was not a fire danger closure sign to be found, not to mention that the place was pretty clear of brush due to the esperanza fire last year. and blew a few houndred rounds through my brand new mini-14.
had an awesome time ,0
