And...... You need to use Silver to kill them, not surgical SS. What a dumbasz 0 -
That would make for one dangerous holstered weapon with that big spike on the end![:0][B)][8]
The case is pretty cool though![8D]0 -

Silver is for Werewolves. Vampires require wooden stakes through the heart, or holy water or sunlight.
And that is why Vampires scare me more than zombies. Zombies are pretty easy to whack. You have to get pretty up close and personal to kill a vampire.[;)]0 -

You forgot beheading and fire, though the ashes must be scattered, just to be safe. Still got to get right in their faces to pull it off, and novices should be warned not to make eye contact with the fiends. Sort of a hypnosis effect takes place, and then they've got you.0 -

They just can't cross moving water or come into your home without being invited. So the moving water thing is kinda out of the picture. How could you get them to cross? You would have to pick them up and carry them over, which at that point you might as well just drive the wooden stake through the heart.
As for the beheading part, I thought that if you behead them you have to stick garlic in their mouth and keep the head and body separate. If they come together with no garlic in the mouth, the head will reattach and the vamp will continue to live. Like I said, a lot harder than zombies.[8D]0 -
I think it's cooler than heck.
The darned Omega itself is worth 1500 bucks, plain jane. They are really neat guns and I have no idea why springfield dropped them.
Reminds me of that undead anime guy, Hellsing, (not Van Helsing the movie) who blasts vampires with his huge autos.

Dear Lord, I am lucky to have made it this far in the eternal battle with the undead. I had completely forgotten the garlic and the issue of them not being able to invade your home/sanctuary without an invitation, and I was unaware of the moving water theory.
Live and learn. Or, in this case, if unlucky, live, die, learn, and endure a hellish half-life, pursued by those who once were your friends and comrades.
I write horror, by the way. I eat up on this nonsense -- at the same time that I allow myself to believe it just to the point of being able to write it semi-credibly. [}:)]0 -
wow, you got a tough job there, being a gun guy and writing horror.
I'll tell ya, everytime I see the pathetic paradigm of the helpless female or the carload of pothead college dorks, I just can't help but comment how short the movie would be if I were the protagonist.

I can't watch most horror movies for just that reason. Weapons don't work, and people are also far more stupid, if that's possible, than real life allows.
My stuff is set, mainly, in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, in Europe, when that part of the world had gone completely 'round the bend in the name of God. My theory is that a few vampires, werewolves, and so on (including, yes, in one story that featured inadvertent necrophilia, a form of zombie) could have carried on almost unnoticed, except of course by their victims and the poor SOB who's the main character in these epics and keeps getting stuck with the job of killing the Very Bad Things.
The time period allows me to have firearms in prominent use, as well as making the point that some human zealots are a lot more scary than the things that go "bump" in the night.0 -

mongrel, yer mail is getting kicked back.
whats yer pen name and some titles?
far as i can tell, the moveing water has to do with its purity as it is always replenishing itself...so makes it a bit like holy water and un-bearable to vampires and their ilke0 -
I thought the firearm of choice for vampires was a Swede Mauser with training ammo (wood projectile). 0 -

I have no idea what's up with my e-mail. I'm getting mail returned that I sent to a buyer on one of my auctions. Fortunately we've got the deal in motion so the lack of communication won't screw anyone up.
That deranged howl you just heard was me discovering that the copy of "Weird Tales" I keep, which has a story of mine in it, has a suspicious yellow stain along its bottom. Apparently one of my dogs is a critic.
"Weird Tales" was the last thing I was published in, under my real name, Mike Lange. The story was called "The Dead Of Winter" and included the ever-so-tasteful (PG-rated) scene of inadvertent necrophilia I referred to earlier, between the main character and a young woman whose status among the living was not what he assumed it to be. That was well over ten years ago. I've concentrated on writing a couple of novels since then, neither of which has found a home yet (both deal with Colonial and Revolutionary-period America, not the slash-and-splatter of most of my short fiction). This is in the time I've actually been able to get any writing done. I was married, a time-consuming occupation in itself, and after a particularly rude and borderline illiterate rejection by "Weird Tales" that criticized my including firearms in a "pseudo-medieval fantasy" (the editor's take on the historical 16th century), I started focusing on building muzzleloaders for people who paid up front for the work and didn't seem to believe I should cater to their ignorance when I was creating something. Much more instant gratification, not to mention profit.
I might mention, since writing and guns were referred to as my job by another poster -- I actually do groundskeeping for a living, and as a side job. Lately the only writing I have time for is getting on this forum and annoying you people, which gives me a certain perverse saitsfaction in itself. [:D]0 -

In a story of mine the main character dispatched a vampire with the ramrod of his wheellock rifle, fired in place of a lead ball. Rip-off of Brian Keith's similar stunt in the movie "The Mountain Men", but it worked well in the story.0
