Wis. drivers line up for gas at 33 cents

MINOCQUA, Wis. - Dozens of drivers made a mad rush for cheap gas after a station employee accidentally changed the price to 33 cents a gallon.
An employee closing Trig's Minocqua Shell for the night mistakenly entered the price of a gallon of gasoline as 32.9 cents instead of $3.299 on Monday night.
He left about 10 p.m., but drivers could still use their credit cards to buy gas.
Word of the bargain spread fast in the rural northern Wisconsin community, with 42 people buying 586 gallons of gas in an hour and 45 minutes. One person had pumped 27 gallons and two purchased 18 gallons.
Local police saw the horde at the station and called store manager Andrea Reuland, who went to the station and pushed the emergency stop.
"There were cars two deep at each of my pumps," said Reuland, who knew many of the drivers and told them they were being dishonest - the main store sign had the correct price.
"I was very upset that there's that many dishonest people," she said. "They knew there was a problem, and they took advantage of an employee's mistake and I think that's terrible."
The employee, who has been there for about six months, had changed the gas prices 25 times in the past six months.
"It was an honest mistake," Reuland said. "I could have done it."
Area residents were still talking about it Friday morning.
"Was it you guys?" a woman in the station asked Reuland. "Why do I always miss the good stuff?"

The theft occurs over in the Oil-Producing countries, guys. $100/BBL equals $100/42gal = $2.38/gallon, before they work it over in our Refineries, filtering out water, dirt, impurities. Before they add detergents to clean your injectors. Before they add knock retardants that keep it from blowing holes in your pistons. Before they color it per law. Before they comply with the myriad of Government Regulations. Before they transport it anywhere (remember it weighs over 6 pounds per gallon). Also remember, less gallons come out of the cracking/refining process than goes in, so the costs are actually higher than $2.38 per gallon of crude, before any of the above begins.
How is driving your local provider out of business gonna get even with anybody? Seems like you would have to travel farther to get more expensive gasoline to me.0 -

The local operator of the station makes between 1 - 5 cents profit per gallon. Sometimes as an independent they have to take a loss to bring people in to make their sales inside (where the money is). So you are ok with the local operator making a $3 loss per gallon or $1758 loss while the big gas company makes their profit and cares not what happens to the local operator (they will just replace him with another if need be) [xx(]0 -

How is driving your local provider out of business gonna get even with anybody? Seems like you would have to travel farther to get more expensive gasoline to me.
the oil producers are not solely responsible for the price of oil.
In fact it is the speculative traders. The current price of oil is not set by OPEC or whomever, it is an artificially set price contingent on the myth that the entire mid east will become one big firefight tomorrow, or next week, or next month and cause major supply disruptions.
I'm sick of waiting for the massive war, I want either cheaper oil or for the damn war to break out already! [:D]0 -

I'm having a hard time reconciling the words "mad rush" with the words "two deep."
2 deep is normal business at a lot of stations. I think a mad rush is a line 2 blocks long.0
