I've got a cuvvy of fat grouse in my back yard....

    Then don't use a single shot!

    Use a double, a pump, or a semi-auto !!

    and then use cream of mushroom soup to simmer them in!

    One at a time, nobody will question the first shot.
    might take a few days but you'll get them

    I ran into a covey of grouse Sunday, Used 38spl shotshells limited out with just three shots. Even took one in flight it was a great day.

    22 long in a 20" or more barrel, a poachers favorite. Not loud enough to raise alarm.

    Grouse or Quail?
    How about a box trap or CB cap from well inside the house with the window opened slightly.
    If the answer to all is no, then just enjoy them as I enjoy deer in my back yard.
    I've only gotten two in my life. They were Blue Mtn Grouse in a roost in Korea in a remote, unmolested mountain area. A burst with an M2 carbine got me two. They were as tough as shoe leather.

    Oh they're definitely grouse. They actually look like feathered balls with legs. We're talking "big fat ones." [:p]

    Ruff Grouse?? I havn't seen one of those in awhile.
    We have Blue Grouse up here, I would see an occacional ruff when i lived in utah.
