Mond and other Limeys

My wife is an EBAY seller and does right well.

She has a lady from GB that has asked that if she wins a certain doll, valued at approx $1500.00, if my wife will value the gift at $50 for luxury/import tax relief.

I suggested that my wife NOT do this as it seems unethical.

Can any of you from the mother country shed some insight?

    If your wife wants to meet United States Custom Officials and/or U.S. Postal Inspectors, to include, perhaps other law enforcement officers in person then she would be off on the right foot by complying with such an unlawful request.

    keep it under $50- as a 'gift', on customs forms..& we pay NO tax..to the uk government, all the US suppliers do us the favor ..

    if we had to pay the import tax, it aint worth the extra dosh!

    Whenever I send stuff to my family over there,I always keep the value down to avoid them paying customs duty.There shouildnt be any taxes to pay when it enters the UK only customs duty and they are absolute thieves.Most people when going back into the UK from foriegn vacations dont declare to customs what they have purchased while away.

    send it in 2 pieces, in 2 boxes. Half a doll can't be worth more than fifty bucks.

    That's sort of tongue-in-cheek, but if there is a way to separate it, that might work.
