Hurricane Katrina Like Winning the Lottery
The flow of federal dollars to the Gulf Coast two years after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated the region already exceeds what the U.S. spent on the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe after World War II. So when is the $127 billion enuff?
And that doesn't even include the $3 billion in private donations nor the expenses incurred by states like Texas which took in the bulk of refugees evacuated from New Orleans after Katrina.
President Bush and Congress have committed more than $127 billion in resources and tax relief for the region - significantly more than inflation-adjusted $107.6 billion directed to 16 countries in Europe between 1947 and 1951.
Okay class, time for a simple math quiz. New Orleans, before Katrina, had roughly 500,000 inhabitants. Yes, if you don't believe me, look it up. So let's be generous, let's say EVERY SINGLE RESIDENT lost their home. Uh....500,000 goes into 127 billion....2 ....carry the.....that's $254,000 for every man, woman, and child! What more do you want from the Federal Government- our....not first responder.....not second responder....but our THIRD responder???

Nice spin but not true, there has been just a little over 6 billion of that 127 billion spent so far on RECOVERY and CLEAN-UP and just so you know genius, very little has gone into the "pockets" of the residents of that area. ABC news just had a great story on this topic within the last week. 0 -
yeah.. look at all the throw away fema trailers that were bought. And remember the formaldahide incident.. well there will be thousands of dollars to them poor innocent people who had free housing . 0 -
