Yeah. I'm so pi$$ed I could spit and take down the doves.
My FIL is coming into town. I normally hunt with my FIL. He'll be here September 1st.
I want to invite him to go dove hunting. Wife says "No" since that will be the only full day he's here that she'll be able to see him.
Dove hunting after the first day tends to stink.0 -

Went and got my license today. Guy at Walmart ask me how many doves I shot last year.. it is needed to report to DNR.. I said , I don't have a clue.. lots of them.. He needed a number.. I said I didn't keep track each day. Anywho.. I told him 300 but who's counting. The HK is oiled up, the shells are bought and the dog is ready. I've seen plenty of birds , maybe they will hang around. 0 -
Bang, I'm ready also. A buddy has a pond that I hunt geese on opening morning than on to the doves at one of the DNR fields. Bacon wrapped is good, but if you fillet the breast off the bone, dip them in Fish&Chips batter than deep fry......Whoooo that's some good eating. 0 -
Haven't tried the deep fried, sounds good. I have been trying to come up with other ideas for cooking them. If anyone else has any recipes I'd sure like to hear them. 0 -
You have to be the cook when you deep fry them. You will find that not as many find their way to the rest of the group. They are little nuggets of culinary delight. With the 1st being on a Sat. I will have to go to my son's Football game that evening so it will not be the typical goose-dove hunt for me. I will have to call it early on the festivities. better than a friend of mine that is the brother of the guy that has the pond with the geese. His daughter and wife didn't check with him and her wedding is on the first. He ain't to happy. He said that I will have the geese all to my self. I will probably take my son with me. 0 -
If I was married to the man I love, I'd be a widow that weekend. I hate Labor Day weekend. 0 -
Can`t shoot em in Michigan . Here they are song birds until they fly over the Ohio line where they are legal game. 0 -

Cut the breasts into chunks and put them in chili. Love them that way!0 -
My two patches of sunflowers aren't very clean this year, but they should still yield a few birds, if a cold snap doesn't push them out of the area early.
About half the time we have a couple of cold days and the birds take off and the hunting is next to worthless, but it's still fun to get out in the field.
We always have several friends in from Michigan, Wisconsin, and Alabama to spend the first five days of the season trying to nail those little beggers.0 -
