Civil war medal experts

I have an Original Grand Army of the Republic medal, along with several cerificates that went with it. Does anyone know the collector value of such things. I found it and the paperwork in a box of stuff I enherited several years ago. I am trying to insure somethings and rid myself of others. So any advice is accepted.

    A quick Ebay search has shown the medals not to be extremely valuable. However, with your documentation and certificates it may be worth quite a bit. Personally Id stabilize the documents and medal and display with honor.

    Thanks for the help Rustybones. Yea, that was it. The certification is large with what appears to be a wax seal. I also have the presentation box. I might display it, but would have to put it in the rear of the house[:D]My kinfolk from texas wold have fits if they saw it.

    That's OK, my family men of the One Hundred and Fortieth New York Volunteers met your kinfolk's people (4th and 5th Texas- under Hood) on top of a hill at Gettysburg and showed them polite Yankee hospitality, even showing/helping them off of Little Round Top after playing with them - sending them happily skipping and jumping back towards their lines.

    I've always liked that story. I've seen many of those GAR medals in the family.

    I've got one of those also. Was my GG-Grandfathers.
    I did some research a few years ago. As recall, these medals were made out of melted down Confederate Cannons.
