Father Accused of Shooting, Paralyzing Daughter's Boyfriend After Finding Him in Closet

BENTONVILLE, Ark. -

A man accused of shooting and paralyzing his daughter's boyfriend has been charged with first-degree battery and a terroristic act.

George David Reed, 48, of Highfill was arrested July 31 in the shooting of Michael Austin Guzman, 19.

Reed was charged Friday in Benton County Circuit Court and is free on a $150,000 bond. His arraignment is set for Sept. 10.

Authorities say Reed came home and found Guzman hiding in the closet of his 17-year-old daughter's bedroom. Police said Reed beat Guzman with a pool stick, then left the room to retrieve a gun. Guzman and his girlfriend blocked the bedroom door with a dresser, and Reed began shooting through the door, police said.

A bullet struck Guzman in the back and lodged in his spinal cord, fracturing three vertebrae. Doctors don't expect Guzman to regain any feeling or mobility below his waist, authorities said.

If convicted, Reed faces up to life in prison.

    Do we even know how old Guzman was? were they both minors (in which case its not rape). Some states have an age of consent set at 16, and if any sex occured, it was clearly consensual, so it's a bit of a jump to call it "Rape". That word is used too much anyway, a man overpowering a terrified female and having his way with her is Rape, an 18 year old and 17 year old who "believe" they are in "love" and both consent is nothing like the previous case of Rape.
    We don't even know any sex occurred, just that the father came home and the guy was in the closet. They could have been doing alot of "fun" things and stopped short of sex, even if you don't use Bill Clinton's definition of sex.

    This guy should have stopped at the pool cue, and called the police and tried to get the boy for trespassing.

    There was no excuse to bring a gun out, much less fire one blindly through a door.

    At first I thought you were joking but I think you might be serious. If you are here is a different take.... # 1 - There is no evidence that a sexual relationship was taking place. # 2 - Even if there was, the age of consent is 16 in Arkansas. # 3 - The male is 19 and the female is 17. Even if the age of consent was 18 in that state there would still be an exception because of the 2 year difference. However, a bigger picture is this....my grandfather started dating my grandmother when she was 16 and he was 22. They married the next year. Married for 55 years with 4 children which turned into 11 grandchildren..one of them being me.
    What this "father" did in this case is barbaric and showed an utter lack of concern or love for his own child let alone and innocent young man that for all we know could have been the next loving grandfather to some beautiful children.
    Quite frankly you scare me with your mind set but I rest assured knowing there will be justice in this case for this father thug.
