Remember that topic about the Saudi gangrape?
The news source I just got the info from was Dutch (so I don't have a link handy), but it appears that the rapists are getting 2-9 year jail sentences, and the woman, though convicted of being in the company of a man she wasn't married to, has been given royal amnesty.
I think the sentences were too lenient for the rapists, but I'm glad to hear about the royal amnesty.

THe amnesty, actually I think a pardon, for the rape-ee is correct. THe royalty who pardoned her said the pardon was not because he thought that his court system was unjust, but "for the good of his people" or some such nonsense. 0 -

Actually, that's a bit of an exaggeration. Amputation of hands only applies to violent robbery, not petty theft or pickpocketing. Anyway...

Anyawy, apparently, the charge of "kidnapping" was dropped in this case, leaving only the rape charges. Apparently, in Saudi Arabia, a rape charge in conjunction with a kidnapping charge would have almost guaranteed execution (mcuh like how, in the US, a killer is more likely to get the death penalty if another crime was involved, like kidnapping, rape or serial murder). From what I've heard on this story, the ones who got 9 years were the actual rapists; the one who got 2 or 3 years was the cameraman.0
