Revisiting .40 Short & Weak
I recently crossed paths (not here at GB) with someone who was a bit mis-educated on the .40 Smiff and Wesson. I figured a little education would be in order for myself as well as for him, so I searched here.

This is an old topic, and quite long, so I thought I'd revisit it here on a new thread.
What opinions do you have now (nunn and others that weighed in on this 3 years ago) different from then, and do you have any personal experience with the .40, good or bad?
I'm not looking for "John Browning blah blah blah" and "It's gotta be .50 BMG or it's not worth anything." Yeah, I know it isn't the biggest, most powerful round out there, but has anybody found it to be inadequate for CCW, service pistol, personal defense, etc.?
The funny thing was, in the conversation I had, my "opponent" was claiming that the 9mm should be used instead, an argument I've never heard before.
Please advise.

Well, he kept pointing out that the 40 is only a little more powerful than the 9mm, and the 40 was supposed to fit in guns originally designed for the 9mm, so they weren't engineered for the higher pressure of the 40 or something. I'd only heard problems with Glocks on that score, and from what I understand, that score is settled. He also mentioned quicker follow up, but I don't know what that's about. I carry the 40 to get quicker follow up than I would with a J-frame .357 magnum. But you better believe when the weather gets cold again I'll be carrying my GP100 under my coat.0
