My home state started that! [:)] 0 -
punkin chunkin? 0 -
...Frozen watermelons, as it's too early for pumpkins. Plus, ice bullets made from 1 1/2 gallon icecream containers. 16# bowling balls were getting over a half mile, somewhere into the woods. 0 -
very nice, and as my brother said before, it originated in delaware! 0 -

Looks like fun, but I hope you know your backstop...0 -
...Eric, there's nothing past the woods except another wheat field, and the owner was there with us, to make sure we didn't hit anywhere near his bee hives. We had spotters on 4 wheelers to make sure everything was clear. Thanks for the concern. 0 -
Film it shooting, Im sure im not the only one that would like to see it. 0 -

...A few weeks ago, some of the guys used it to destroy an upright piano. I missed the event, but they were going to put it on youtube. I'll have to see if it ever got done.0 -
how does yours work? Ive seen em all, compressed air, compressed nitrogen, im pretty sure its not a giant spring! 0 -

...Compressed air. An industrial, 4 cyl. compressor fills the 500 gal. tank in about three minutes. We usually run about 110 psi. There's a 10" butterfly valve at the base of the 50' barrel. A pneumatic cylinder opens the valve in a fraction of a second. A hydraulic cyinder that runs off the tractor hydraulics operates the elevation. It's a muzzle loader now, but plans are in the works for a breech loading system. Except for our labor and welding rods, there's less than $200 in the thing.....but we're pretty good scroungers and borrowers.
...In the last pic, you can see the the air cylinder that pushes the lever connected to the butterfly valve.0 -

"Direct fire" w/16lb. bowling ball(50-75')would be awsome to see...
Jeff0 -
What's your rate of fire (how long to refill)? The idea of a stick mag of 16# Bowling Balls or ice ala a Gattling Gun sounds like it would be fun to try. 0 -
Alpha One Two, Bravo Three Four, adjust fire, over. 0 -
just curious, what is the BC and SD of a 16# bowling ball.
That looks like a hoot[:p]!
Does it make much noise more than a big whoosh?0 -
I like going to the punkin'chunkin here in Delaware every year as a spectator. Some of those cannons are amazing. 0 -
BC is prob about 0.075 (just a BIG Round ball) 0 -

...Just a big "whoosh" is about right. Recoil is another matter. We keep it hitched to the tractor and put the tractor bucket edge down on the ground. It still rocks everything back to where the loader bucket scrapes a path in the ground.
...We couldn't compete with the big pneumatics at the competitions that use two 1,000 gal. tanks, progressive opening valve systems and such, but that was never the goal. It's just for cheap fun.0 -
Looks like fun. [8D]Hadn't never been to such an event. 0 -
I notice that you are using the right color tractor. Is the gun tube part of an old grain auger? 0 -
wonder if you could make a sabot out of styrofoam and use it to shoot water ballons? 0 -
Down in Papua New Guinea we once used a medium size transportable 3-stage air compressor that was capable of 12000 PSI and the tank on the skid with was rated 15,000
What could we do with that??0 -

...Barrel is sections of 10" grain spouting. Easier to add sections, as they're flanged and heavier gauge steel than auger tube. That red thing is a 666. Rather fitting, I think. Sometimes we use a Super M-TA. We bleed RED blood around here. Sorry, cowdoc, but that green blood is alien or something.....[:o)]0 -

...We tried that to keep pumpkins from breaking in the barrel. It was OK when we had a 15-20' tube, but needed a long ramrod to make sure they seated all the way down. The sabots were only good for one shot and it wasn't worth the effort.0 -

The 666 is a very good little tractor. I remember Dads new 666 being delivered when I was a kid. It was diesel w/ 2pt hitch. Spent alot of hours on that tractor.0 -
That does look like fun. 0 -
You obviously got tired of the Playstation? You have way too much time on your hands! Pass me some pumpkin pie! 0 -
