I dont have much experience but have read up recently. From what I have read the .40s&w came from the 10mm they just shortened the case and powder charge. A full power 10mm goes way beyond a .40 or .45 in velocity and energy and is close to .41magnum levels. I shot a Glock 29 in 10mm that was surprisingly accurate and more so than the .40's I have shot but not the .45 glocks I have fired. I wouldnt mind having one. The silvertips I shot sounded like cannons going off. In terms of velocity and energy the 10mm is king of this hill I would have to say the .45 is more accuarte though based on what experience I have with the 2. 0 -

personally i have always liked the .40 over the .45. why ? i dont know, it just seems to have less kick, smoother firing round. i think the .40 is also a very lethal round for self defense or even offense.
i just like the .40 better than the .45 i have no experience with the 10mm though.0 -

The 10mm should be the military round. Its got the power, penetration, and accuracy to do the job. You won't need to empty a mag into the bad guy and then follow his blood trail to finish him off. The 10mm will staple him to the ground where you hit him. The .45 is great and the big round means business. The .40 is a 10mm lite. Half the calories and half the power. But it will do the job. When I leave the house with one of these calibers, I feel I am armed acccordingly.0 -

10mm has some amazing power, and from what I understand is pretty much considered almost a magnum load. The .40sw is kinda watered down version, less recoil, less penetration, makes it more practical for pretty much everyone, plus the shorter case length lets you fit it in the same size duty weapon that would typically chamber a 9mm. Gave it awesome marketing potention, where as the 10mm would fit in larger gun similar to that chambered in .45acp. The .45acp is proven and proven and gets the job done. The 10mm isn't much smaller and not that much lighter, but has alot more velocity and alot more energy when it hits.0 -
Every thing the .40 or .45 will do the 10mm will do it better. Alot of people beleve the .357mag is more poweful than both the .40 and the .45. The 10mm is way more powerful than the 357mag. As some have said in this post very close to the 41mag in power. 2 hand guns are in production of the 10mm the Glock and the EAA Witness. There are several small production runs in the 1911A1 versions and the out of production Smith and Wessons are also very good hand guns. I own the Witness and the Glock and have owned several of the S&W. My CCW is the Witness. 15rounds 3.8 inch barrel on a poly frame Cocked and locked. My camp gun is the Glock with a 6 inch ported barrel and 15rds with a scope. My 2 cents [8D] 0 -

The biggest and possiably only problem with the 10mm is over-penitration ... which is why the Secret Service quit using it.
I'd see no problem with it being the new Military round.
The older I get, the more I like the 22LR ... followed by 45acp.
The 40 has proven to be a satisfactory and accptable round. The only reason I don't get into it is I've just never felt it necessary ... it would just be another round to reload for ... bullets and powder to inventory.0 -
O.K. , I 'carry' (& really like ) a .40 cal. ((partly beacuse of work requirements)and have seen really good results from the .40 cal. ? I do really like the 45 acp , and would be 'carrying' it if not for the dept. requirements , it has a very long and proven track record ? now for the 10mm , not really impressed (personally),have seen some gun problems with this cal. and not so sure about real world results (shootings,ect.)? of course , this is just my opinion ??? and not really sure what you where asking so I just gave my first thoughts !

There are few things that I think trump a .45. 10mm is one of them. And only just. For military and LEO use mind you; for my own use, I don't own one but have shot them in rental guns a fair bit.
Never thought much of the .40. It's ok, I just see it like the 16 ga. shell; very effective but not enough up from the 9mm to make me want it, and not down enough from the .45 to make me want it- just like the 16 ga compared to 12 and 20; what my 20 will not do (and that ain't much) my 12 will; 16- and the .40- are just extraneous.0 -

...I dont care much for the .40 or .357 sig, no particular reason.
...Both the .45 and 10mm can be loaded to the extreme, though the 10mm is going to have a flatter trajectory. Lots of folks handgun hunt with 10mm for this reason.

Check out the Dan Wessons in 10mm. The folks on the 10mm site really like them. I like Colts. The S&W 10mm are extremely stout. I do not care for the grip angle. 0 -

TO my knowledge, the Secret Service has never used a 10mm. They used to issue 9mm Sigs, but have gone to Sigs in 357 Sig. The FBI did issue the 10mm for a short while, but the recoil combined with the weight of the gun to tote around all day, did not endear itself to agents who wear suits and sit at desks all day. The 10mm ammo was downloaded to reduce the recoil, S&W realized they could get the same power in a shorter case and the 40S&W was born.0 -
Thats always been my biggest argument for the .357SIG as a viable round where some dont like is that if the people who protect our President wear them than what better endorsement do you need than that. Plus all the other major agencies that carry them now. 0
