mormon neighbor and one world
I have written about my Mormon neighbors in a number of posts. Very good neighbors. Bill and his wife have four kids: a boy 21, a girl 17, girl 15 and a boy 12. Kids are very nice, helpful and repesctful. They remind me of what most kids used to be like.
Their son just got back from being a missionary. I asked him where he was living and he said he was a mormon missionary in Salt Lake City, Utah! I thought most people in Utah were moromns. I asked him what a missionary did in Utah, kind of tongue-in-cheek. He said he went there on a mission to covert the hispanics. I asked of there was a lot of hispanics there and he said there were. "Are they citizens?" I asked. He said many were not. We talked about the growth of illegal immigrants in our country. I told him I felt it was a problem. In the meantime Bill, his dad, came out to visit with us.
They did not agree that the illegals were a problem four our country. I was surprised at this since I thought mormans were more patriotic. He even said they helped illegals get citizenship if they joined the mormon church. I like my neighbors BUT I told them that this was wrong. How many illegals would use the mormon church to gain citizenship? Would they flock to Utah to join up so they could be citizens for free? Get the welfare benefits by being mormon?
The final shock came when they told me the moroman church had people in the goverment to help this along. Bill said they were trying to convert people all over the world and it did not matter what nation they were from. I said this was wel and good BUT they were converting criminals. If they are here illegally it is a crime, no?
Does this stick in anyone elses craw?

+1 I can honestly say I've not met one mormon that wasn't a decent person in language and action. Even a mormon guy I worked with offshore was a great and truely friendly person that never cursed once.
I wonder where all these conspiracy theories about them come from.0 -
Mormon men are required to do a mission and convert anyone they can. Seems dumb but then again in recent years I found organized religion to be full of it. 0 -
"in recent years I found organized religion to be full of it."
- I've been trying for years to understand this.
If organized religion is such bunk and easily proven to be total hogwash, than I'm left to wonder how such total idiots such as Thomas Aquinas, Augustine, Socrates, Pascal, etc. bought into it. What is it that the modern master of progressive thought has, what breakthrough has he made in logic that was totally unavailable for well OVER 2000 years?0 -
I challenge anyone to read the book "The Salamander Letter" and not come away from it with a changed point of view. 0 -

that, and the freedom of speech to say what you want about religion.
you could not have said or thought to the contrary without it.0 -

I wonder where all these conspiracy theories about them come from.
Three places: Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, and Doctrines and Covenants.
Did you know they disclaim the Holy Trinity? How can a Christian do that and still claim to be a Christian?
Did you know that their 'heavenly father' is sire to ALL the children on this planet, because it is HIS planet? And that Jesus, a man was their "heavenly father's" son.
Did you know, Mormon women are encouraged to bear children to provide earthly bodies for the 'spirit children' that populate the heavens, 'heavenly father's' spawn?
Did you know that their ideology preaches that if you do enough good while on earth, you too can be a GOD and have your own planet?
Did you know that Joseph Smith will sit in judgement on you?
No conspiracy theory; it's what their "religion" preaches.
I don't begrudge them any of it as long as they don't claim to represent Christians. They are anything but Christlike, in fact they deny Him, claiming God was a man of the flesh and in the flesh.

I totally agree that illegal immigration is wrong. But all peopel have the opportunity to hear the gospel as well and either accept it or reject it.
People who are knowingly running from the law should not be baptized, certain criteria have to be met before they can become members and obeying the law is one of them.
Also the tithing that is received is used for building churches, temples and growing the church, our ministry does not get paid a dime.
Here are the Articles of Faith that we live by. See the second one from the bottom.
We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.
We believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression.
We believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
We believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.
We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul-We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

I think these things are fine. My original post was not to attack mormon beliefs, which to me are as plausible as any, but to highlight a practice I thought sounded fishy. I'm sorry of this sounded like an attack on mormon people or beliefs.

Whiteclouder thanks for the info. I've never looked into the religion personally because well I have no need to. I'm not much of a religion type of guy. I'd rather read the good book myself and apply it to myself in a personal setting. 0 -
Same here man. Religion does not have a monopoly of ethics, and life values.

This is not meant to judge any individual be it Mormon Baptist Jew Buddhist etc but as to the religion of the Mormons I quote from their web page on their book:
The Restoration of Truth
The Book of Mormon
As part of the Restoration? of the gospel?, God brought forth the Book of Mormon: Another testament of Jesus Christ?. By the power of God, Joseph Smith translated this book from an ancient record written on gold plates?. The Book of Mormon is "a record of God's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains, as does the Bible?, the fulness of the everlasting gospel" (Introduction to the Book of Mormon).
Now I will quote from the last verses in the actual Word of God (KJV).
Revelations 22:18-21;
18: For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book. If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plaques that are written in this book.
19: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city and from the things that are written in this book.
20:
He which testifieth these things saith. Surely I come quickly
Amen, even so, come, Lord Jesus
21: The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen
And so God completed "his" word with a warning to those that would "add" to it.
You do the math!
PS, you know how often times you hear someone say (Like me) In the Greek it has a stronger, clearer, deeper more exact etc meaning????
Well the above verses in English are one of the rare cases when the English is exactly like it is in Greek.
Adding to God's word is like looking up the Space Shuttle engines just as they are going off. That is, however, my opinion and not meant as scripture!

Have a mormon define "gospel". It's not the same as a Christian's.

Believeth in Me. Period, no caveats. The gift of the Holy Ghost is NOT for man, regardless his station or ilk, to give.
"We believe that these ordinance are: 1st, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ: 2d, Repentance: 3d, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins: 4th, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost." [/i] This is verbatim from their Pearl of Great Price. Except this version is dated 1851 If it doesn't fit some doctrine revealed at a later date, they simply have a revelation that will MAKE it fit.
We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
True Christians can get it done all by themselves. Jesus made it easy.
We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.
When the Bible does not support what they espouse, they make things like some subjective Primitive Church. It's what the 'authority' does full time, fabricate, obfuscate and several other 'cates' I won't bring up.
We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.
Of course they believe in visions, revelations, interpretations, etc. So does an audience at a magic show.
We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
The Book of Mormon is a work of fiction, and has been revised hundreds of times. They struggle mightily to lay their hands on all the OLD versions and those they can't procure, they brand as fakes.
We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
And these revelations will come from a MAN who is ELECTED to be an apostle, whose word is FINAL and ABSOLUTE. Challenge him at your peril as a mormon.
We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.
Anyone want to guess who is included amongst the Ten Tribes?

These articles of faith have numbered over the decades anywhere from 10 to 14, depending on necessity. The book of mormon, as I said, has been revised and amended beyond recognition of the original, some changes very subtle (like making the word "principles" carry the same weight as the word "ordinace", others blatant; for instance. first book of nephi, p.32; 1830 version; "...that the Lamb of God is the Eternal Father and the Saviour of the world."
And today I read: "..the Lamb of God is the Son of the Eternal Father and the Savior of the world." Absolutely mind boggling that rational people can and will accept this when one of their articles of faith stipulates that "...we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God." and ,by implication, perfect as written.
Mind boggling.

I have no problem with legal immigrants and if the immigration code book is anything like the IRS codes I think they'd need all the help they can get. AS long as nobody is breaking the law, as long as the Mormons are just helping the illegals wade through the paperwork and idiotic bureaucracy then I'm OK with it.
So, let me see....If the fed decides to make all the illegals who are here already legal and then open the floodgates even more, to tens of millions of additional "legal" aliens, then that is okay, because it's legal, right???
I personally think that this line of thinking and just the simple ambivalence many have of our current system, is a huge problem and an absolute danger to the future of America.
This is NOT the same situation of 100 years ago where we needed (at least arguably) mass immigration. We need to stop, take a deep breath, analyze what we REALLY need as far as additional immigration, if any, and only then allow immigration if it is a benefit to America.

Clouder sounds like he is the true authority on Mormons. By the way. the trinity as you know it has been argued for centuries. It took the Nicene Creed for the "church" to decide what they believed. But then again, which Nicene creed was it? the 1st in 325? or the second in 381? But then what is a Christian? Simply put someone who believes in Jesus Christ who by the way is the Devine Son of GOD. 0 -

How can one be an authority on something that changes week to week? I've got no bone to pick with any cult as long as they openly tell me who they are. Mormons cannot call themselves Christians, the title has been taken. They should stick with Latter Day Saints as they did for over 120 years.

Anti LDS statements can also be applied to all religions,
Any referance to one would apply to any God squad.
some muslums are well behaved, others not.
Follow the money, 7% out of a dollar is whats important.
and while on that, I thought I read in the bible that to give
(up-too) 7% was to increase the stored away for hard times food supply not to make a church, evangalist, religion Etc. rich.
I could be wrong....but not off the mark.0 -
Thanks Rosie. I agree. When I started this post it was not condemn mormons only to say I was dissappointed they were letting people join their church who were here illegally. To me they are criminals and should not be accepted until they can stand with a clear conscious and repent. When I was young I was baptized and had to repent of the sins I committed. I think the the mormon church should expect the same from people.
Shouldn't someone give up selling crack before joining the mormon church, shouldn't someone give up beating their spouse before converting to mormonisim? Being here illegally is okay then? What about prostitutes? Whay stop there? Pedophiles? A CRIMINAL IS A CRIMINAL AND SHOULD HAVE TO GIVE UP THEIR OLD LIFE BEFORE JOINING ANY CHURCH.

It's amazing that the name Christ is part of our name "The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Days Saints. And if you go to any members homes, churches or visit their visitor centers- there are pictures of Christ everywhere. Of course we have the huge Christus at Temple Square in Salt Lake City. google Christus at Temple Square.

One more post and then I'll let this go.
The only good part of listening to a droning mormon is that they eventually give themselves away. The name Christ in their cult's title is in context; just read it: Jesus Christ OF latter day saints. They claim Him as theirs, to the exclusion of all others. I completely agree with the poster: I too am amazed to see your cult use the name Jesus Christ.
Christus? They imply meaning that isn't there. It's a copy of a beautiful Danish statue of Christ called "The Christus" but mormons now use it as a generic term. See the subtle implication, "A" Christus? They hope you don't. But compare Christ's statue in the square to what crowns the temple in the same facility. A cross? Another stature of Christ? Nope, it's the character Moroni, last of the tribe that lived in the central USA around 400 AD, and supposedly the mormon heavenly father's messenger. So who do they hold in primary esteem? Not hard to deduce.
Be aware and be careful, they're akin to vipers.
