The best .380acp load?
I got my hands on a Firestorm .380acp today for $200.00 took it out and shot it some and the gun it very surprisingly accurate at reasonable ranges. I fired some Remington Golden Saber 102 grain JHP's /Remington Express 88 grain JHP's and some Remington 90 grain FMJ.I am curious who knows what the hottest load was for a .380acp. The 102 Golden Sabers I liked because they were the heaviest I could find but they didnt seem to really move if you know what I mean the FMJ and 88 grainers were booking. Im a fan of the .38 Special and it seems that even though you get lighter weight bullets from a .380acp that it should be able to out perform a .38 in a barrel as short as my 642 Smith because the Firestorm is sporting a 3.5" barrel. If you have any data links or such on good loads or penetration/ballistic charts I would appreciate the resource. I am very impressed with this gun as of now no malfunctions of any kind out of 155 rounds back to back. The gun is definately on the mark with the Remington Express 88 grain JHP's which were the most accurate putting all in a very tight little group in the x ring and forehead of a standard target. Its much more accurate than my 642 thats for sure. Any help though.

I've always like the Winchester 88gr(?) SXT's.
Edit: it would be much easier to read your posts if you add a space between a period and the first letter of the next sentence. I usually don't do this, but it's hard to read.0 -
Corbon is probably the hottest 380 you will find, just make sure it feeds in your gun. 0 -
Does that help any? I didnt see any 88 grain SXT's on the Winchester site all I saw was 85 grain Silvertips and 95 grain Supremes. Both were expsensive.$40.00 for 50 Silvertips and $20.00 for 20 Supremes. The Remingtons didnt cost but $13.99 for 25 Golden Sabres. 0 -
PC800 the Cor-Bons definately are the hottest I have seen so far. The DPX looks interesting and the PwerBall looks good. The regualr Cor-Bon is toteing the most energy and velocity though and all their numbers are from a 2.5" barrel I should get a touch more from a 3.5". Im gonna see if I cant get my hands on some of the Powerball around here somewhere and give those a shot. Thanks for the info. 0 -
They must have been the 95grainers.
Here they are...

Those on that first link do look nastty Cubslover I am going to check those out as well. Im looking for the hottest and most accurate and if those SXT's punch the paper as well as the Remington Express 88 grainers did I will be keeping those in the newby. I have never had a probelm with any Winchester ammuntion malfunctiong I dont see why these would be any different. 0 -
Check out the penetration of hollow points vs. non-hollow points. One needs good penetration for self defence. Hollow points don't seem to have it. 0 -
Thats the kind of stuff Im trying to find links or resources to right there.Ballitics/Penetration things of that nature. I was wondering how deep a 88 grain JHP running around 950 fps would penetrate versus FMJ. You definately need penetration no matter how accurate the pistol is,thats why I was curious as to the hottest .380 load so maybe it would get that JHP in there where it needed to be. Up close and personal I dont see where it would be a problem but with some distance it could weigh on my mind. 0 -

Good report on the Firestorm 380.
Those and the Bersa 380 are excellent value in a pistol.0 -
I am extremly impressed with it so far. All the features of it,how it fits my hand, the sights, the accuracy is very acceptable and its reliable so far. Definately a well made gun and I got it new for $200.00+ tax and it says Ellet Brothers Exclusive on the box. I dont know if that means much but its a 2 tone black with nickel mag release/trigger/decocker so its a very nice looking pistol as well. So far I would definately reccomend one thats for sure. 0 -
Mcaso neither of those took me anywhere. 0 -
The Firestorm 380 is a great little pistol and it is made by Bersa. It has the better finger grips and sights, mine will eat any ammo. I have been shooting the Brown Bear Hp and no problems. I have been looking at the Glazer 380 ammo the stats say with the 9mm and the Glazer it has the punch of the 45.???????????? Made for the Sky Marshals so not to over penatrate in a airplane but have enough power to bring down the BG. Kinda Pricy but a guy shouldn't have to shoot much of it. Anybody have any info on the Glazer they would like to share with us.[:p][:D][}:)] 0 -

I agree 100%!
But I do not know that I would start shooting a regular diet of hot loads through them as they were not made for that!
I would practice with standard loads and keep it loaded with the hot loads only for defence reasons.
I say this because of the alloy frame that they have (I would say this of any gun with an alloy frame).
But this is my opinion! And my opinion and $1 might get me a cup of coffee![;)][:D]0 -
Sorry Isurelkegns. It is www.theboxotruth.com 0 -
It's not .380, but I'm ver fond of Hornady XTP in my 9x18 P64 (abut the same as the PPK/Bersa). They don't expand quite as much as some other rounds, but the also seem to have greater penetration. 0 -
Mcaso thanks for that link. The .380acp out of a Kel-Tec P3AT passed the penetration test with JHP and BALL ammo. My firestorm has an extra 3/4 of an inch of barrel so I think it would fine. Thanks for that link though. 0 -
Git R Done that is a good point though. I looked at the link Mcaso posted and I think my 88 grain Remingtons Ive got in there now will do the job and they are on the money accurate out of this pistol. 0
