Cleveland is safer

Our police bought back 451 firearms to melt down and shred. Our streets are so much safer now - NOT. Here is a copy of a letter to the editor of the Plain Dealer this morning.

I just wanted to say how much I liked the gun swap at the Convention Center on Saturday.

Over the last few years, I have bought several guns at shows for $15 to $20 each. Most were break-open shotguns or handguns that could no longer be fired but were good for spare parts. I turned in two Saturday and got $200 worth of free gas. Between the parts I sold and the turn-in, I cleared $185.

I would have turned in more guns, but I didn't have time to get home and back before closing.

What a deal - free gas for the next month! Time to buy more cheap guns.

Mentor is about an hour outside of the city. They read this letter on the radio this morning.

    I have met Dennis, he was at an event I was working. All the big shots had special parking and were aloof from "real" people unless the press was around. Dennis turned down the special parking and parked 4 blocks away like the real people. He also talked with everyone he met. He was approachable.
    And Cleveland is not the first city to have a buy back. look at all the buy backs that have been in the news.

    Cleveland sucks now. Anybody remember all the gun shows they used to have at the IX center? I used to go with my dad when he sold at the OGCA shows. They had huge outdoors shows there too. Are those still going on?

    Most people from Cleveland (black and white) WILL tell you that this is typical grand-standing, politican-promoting bull@#$%. I work as a commercial facilties manager in the NE Ohio area. Live in the suburbs and travel the city everyday for work. I often have to respond to break-ins. The Cleveland Police will arrive eventually (they are stretched thin and over worked). Twice I have arrived at the buildings and waited in the parking lot for the police. It could be 4-6 hours before they arrive. In the meantime I can ether keep waiting or go inside and assess the damage. IF all is clear I board up the window/door. The police came and checked the place out. They took a report and left.

    As I was leaving I was jumped on my way back to my truck. Luckily I saw them coming. One guy had a piece of rebar and the other had what looked like a fishing knife. I had my hammer and stood ready. They must have not sensed how scared I was and they gave up and ran away. I called the police again and they asked if the guys were still there and were they armed. I explained what happened and they said to wait there since the clowns left and I was "safe". Like a idiot I waited an hour and nobody showed so I left. After this I took the Ohio CCW class.

    The second time I was carrying my 38 and luckily nobody bothered me. Cleveland is no safer with the bull@#$% gun buy back. Rebar and fishing knives are still legal.

    The gun show we have is now at the fair grounds, The IX show the sportsman show and I don't think they have guns.

    Dutchman have you considered a security service for your facilities? Tenable Protective Services ( http://tenable.net ) does alarm response. They are faster than the police and are armed.

    I am going to bid this service in 2009. Until then there are five of us for 28 properties. Kinda like the Alamo.[;)]
