Custom gun case
I am making a custom case for my pistol and I am cutting out a "hole" in the foam that is the same outline and deep enough so the gun doesn't sit above the top of the foam. Basically I am making a recessed hole in the foam that my gun will sit in. I then want to cover the foam with a nice soft felt fabric so it kinda looks like this:

but I don't want the felt to have any creases in it like this case does. How do I cover the recessed hole and not have the felt wrinkle/crease like this case does, I would like to use only one piece of fabric so there are no seems or lines you can see because I used to separate pieces of fabric. Meaning I want it all to be very smooth with no wrinkles/creases/lines you can see that it is not all one piece of fabric. How do I do this???

My guess is you won't be able to, due to all the curves and straight lines "joining" each other. cut the "Hole" set the fabric in the hole and work your way to the edges, and see what it looks like. I would start out with some old disgarded cloth, so if you can't get it to look like you want, you're not out any money. GOOD LUCK. 0 -
I would try some kind of stretchy felt..or a spray on flocking. 0 -

[8D]-When I built this display case, for my Walker-Colt, I thought of the same thing as you, then I decided to just use velcro strips to hold the parts in place and it works OK--

Three step process.
1. (bottom layer) Foam backing covered with felt and glued to the bottom of the case.
2. (center layer) With the Foam surrounding the pistol cut all of the way through. Cut the felt wide and long enough to cover the inside of the cutout. 1/8 to 1/4" to wide will allow for you to trim the top and bottom edge of the felt with a razor blade once the glue dries.
3. (top of center layer) Once the felt is glued and trimmed along the edges of the insert. Cover the top with felt, glue and let it dry. Then carefully trim the felt around the edges where it meets the cut out for the pistol to fit in.
If it is did carefully and correctly. You will not even notice where the edges meet. My Mom use to do this type of stuff and she could even hand sew the top edge meets the insert together in such a way that it formed a small bead around the edge or tuck at the joints.0 -
