Depression is comming?

I keep hearing that we are in a depression, however, I do not think that it is like the great depression. I would like to hear others thoughts on the economy and our "depression". What do you think?

    I have been hearing the same thing since the 70s.
    Some people are in a depression all the time and some people are depressingly Rich.
    If there is a depression I don't know about it.
    I am better off now financially then I have ever been.

    We are not in a depression, but there are many factors that point to one in the near future, declining dollar, lack of family wage jobs, increased energy cost, increasing private debt/negative savings, dropping home and stock values. It could get interesting soon.

    Isn't a RESESSION a normal thing around presidential election time? Somebody teach me something here.....I've forgotten WAY too much about this stuff!!!! (This is me trying to act like I may have known something...but in all actuality I don't think I ever really knew much about these things.) Go ahead...make fun of me...but only if you can teach me about what is going on.

    recession is inevitable after a period of over loaning and spending like we have had since 2001, just means a slow down until we gear up again for another fast ride on the gravy train

Then, we'll be ripe for the invasion from the hordes of Chinese bankers, toy makers, European bureaucrats, UN one-worlders, Mexican truck drivers, "predatory lenders," Halliburton controlled automatons, Big Oil, The Elders of Zion, Buddhist monks and all the other soft-headed tin-foil asshattery I constantly hear around here.

    The terms recession and depression are simply degrees of the same condition and are used to describe the level involved, much like we use ill and critical to describe the difference between "take two aspirin and go to bed" and "get your butt to a hospital". There may be as many variations of the definitions as there are of what constitutes a "good day" for us, but a commonly used distinction is that a recession exists when you have two consecutive quarters of negative GDP, and a depression exists when that reaches a 10% total decline in GDP for the period. It's about the same thing as "my car needs a tune-up" vs. "it's time to overhaul that motor".

    We are not in either one at the current time, but you can be certain that there is one in the future - of both.

    We are in the longest period of our history of not having a depression, and it is not "Doom and Gloom" to state the we will have more in the future. They will happen on a reoccurring basis until the end of time.

    Even during "The Great Depression" there were folks who were "distracted" and didn't even realize how poor they were.

    Look at all the foreclosures going on right now. It's pretty rough out there. Look at fuel prices, health, auto, home owners insurance ect. Seems to me that we are headed there if some things don't change soon. I guess we are to busy focusing on helping others, instead of taking care of our own here in the US.
