Buy American. What does it mean now?
This came off another post about the value (or lack of) of the dollar. Does buy American mean anything now? A guy at our Church bought a Cadillac that was made in Germany. I believe that Ford, GM and Chrylser make/assemble vehicles in other countries. Most clothes are made in Asia. Home electronics aren't made here. What do you folks think? Can we get manufacturing back since the dollar is worth less? [8]

My last truck was a Ford Ranger that was built in Canada. My Silverado was made in Canada. Wal-Mart is hated for importing everything from China but so does Target, Meiyers, Kmart, Kohls, Bass Pro, Best Buy, ect. What are ya gonna do. For the most part we really don't have a choice anymore for most products. In 20 years we aren't going to have ANY manufacturing left in the US. I doubt we'll ever get it back. 0 -

American manufacturing is giving away the technology to beat us. Belive me I know this for a fact as my company does it every day. In 20 years or less we will be a third rate manufacturing country while we have made the Communists in Red China number one. CEO's are charged by stock holders to make more money for them. How do they do this? They lay off workers and they buy foreign parts. I don't mind if we are beaten by a good say German company. But I think it is un-American to give the technology to the communists just to make a profit. Just my $0.02 worth. 0 -

I think Arnold Toynbe said that greed (not war, famine) will destroy the western world. Your post outlines the unfortunate truth. Our company used to talk about taking good care of the customer...now it is work your butt off to make the stockholders rich. Go out on your own and you pay Uncle Sam a whopping 48% self-employment penalty.

where did you guys get this information that ford, chrysler, and gm where made in other countries?,they all three have manufacturing/assembly plants in the saint louis area, the damn parts they use is another story

Actually there is more made in the US than most think.
The GDP is a great measure of this. In 1960 the US GDP was $2,501.8 in billions. In 2006 it was $11,319.4 in billions.
That is an increase of 352%
As far as jobs go:
In 2006 there were 144,427,000,000 employed in the US. In 1960 there were 66,778,000,000 employed in the US.
That is an increase of 78%
In 1960 the unemployment rate was 5.5% in 2006 it was 4.6%0 -
I just bought a CRKT (columbia river knife and tool) Leupold commemorative fixed blade knife. I never even thought twice. leupold and crkt together. I just looked at the blade near the handle and see Lazer etched the word "CHINA". Its not right. 0 -

I would bet in 10 to 20 years the U.S. economy will be in a depression, kind of like in the 1930's. By then U.S. companies will have out-sourced every mechanical / electrical / computer engineering job to other countries like India and Pakistan!
We will not manufacture anything whatsoever in the U.S., it will be made elsewhere.
Therefore, there won't be a middle class society. There will only be the rich, who owns the Wal-marts, Kohl's, Targets, etc, and the Mexicans.
There won't be anybody able to afford the nicer things, so all the fancy high end stores will be gone. Mexicans will have every other job there is to be had.
The unemployment rate will be about 40% and whoever is President at that time will have a irreversable problem on their hands. We won't be called the U.S anymore, it will be called North Mexico!
I went on a job interview on monday for a Maintenence Technician at a assisted living home for the elderly. They want someone to maintain 110 apartments(each apartment has there own furnace), kitchen equipment, roof air conditioners and heaters,plumbing,electrical, carpentry, and also a daily work list, and be on call 24/7 with a pager, all for the whopping salary of $12 per hour! They won't say it, but they are looking for a Mexican! I have a house and cars, and how could you live on $335 per week take home? The average apartment rents for $3000 per month, but they want a person to work for nothing!

That is a pretty good employment rate in a country of 300 million. Still way too many getting there votes purchased with the government check though. Too expensive for the rest of us, they need to get employed.0 -

I am sure you will be delighted to find that most of those jobs are in high paying manufacturing,industral, engineering, and professional areas.

There was a time when the biggest and meanest ruled. Then the greatest military Generals ran the show. The priests, various cultish gurus and religious purveyors of whatever god was paying the bills, all took a shot at running the civilized world. Since the dawn of the industrial revolution and the rise of democratic governments, the merchant class has been the driving force pushing society. In the need for ever-expanding markets in which to peddle their merchandise the merchant rulers have given us 'The World Economy'. In order for it to work properly the costs of labor must find a near equalibrium across the globe. Being on the high end of the 'good living' scale, we naturally need to make less money for the same job that some joker in a hut in SE Asia can do for a few bucks and a chicken. We need to pay $5/gal for gas like our global partners to give us all that warm community feeling that can only be found in mutual suffering. Yep, after you turn the other cheek you may as well go ahead and spread them while you're at it cause we're fixin' to get screwed. 0 -

This is the thing that has me in an uproar. My wife works for a huge company, and our government is giving this company incentives to out-source jobs to other countries. Now tell me how that makes any sense at all, because I sure don't understand it?
In my figuring, the company is almost getting free labor, and what owner wouldn't want that. They are paying low wages to these other countries, and getting U.S. government incentives.
The other problem that I see is that when we send this money to India or Pakistan or wherever, it isn't being spent here. It never comes back, it doesn't buy american cars, or furniture,it's gone for good, and how is this suppose to help us?

I drive a Chevy Venture that was made in Canada
That replaced a Ford Escort that was made in Mexico
My buddy drives a BMW that was made in South Carolina
My dad drives a Toyota made in Tennesee
I was thinking about buying a good American Pistol like a Springfield XD that is made in Croatia

The Elites hold no loyality to any certain country. They are convinced that they alone are wise enough to make the decisions for the masses.
their God is money. They have nearly achieved what they have been driving at for many years. The entire world at their feet..gazing adoringly at the hem of their robe.

Be sure and continue to vote in the political leaders you are SUPPOSED to..the front-runners. Be sure and gaxe adoringly at the Sam Waltons and Bill Gates of the world...Capitalism being SUCH a wonderful system.

I always buy American vehicles. Ultimately the payment of that vehicle goes to an American company where hopefully it will be given to it's workers and they will spend it on our soil.
When a check for a Japanese car, or Korean car goes to those companies, it doesn't get spent here, it's gone!
Sure you'll say that Honda's and Toyota's are built here and provide Americans with jobs, that's fine, but if the same people that bought foreign cars, bought American cars, more than 3 times that amount of jobs would be created here in America! Fact! It's a staggering number.
I will never buy a foreign car! People are brainwashed into thinking there better, that's a bunch of B.S., there's nothing wrong with our American cars.
Sure, there's a lot of things that you can't buy American, but the 2 things that boost our economy most, is car and house sales, and there both in the toilet right now!0 -
