325 Charged, 93 Arrested in First Weekend of School
(Columbia) - Operation Welcome Back, an operation held from August 23rd to August 26th, resulted in 93 arrests, with 325 charges handed out.
Several law enforcement agencies were involved, including Columbia Police Department, USC Police, Benedict Police and SLED. Officers patrolled Five Points, and the Vista and areas surrounding the USC campus.
Law enforcement say they mainly focused on cracking down on underage drinking, sales of alcohol to underage persons, loud parties, aggressive begging, auto-breakings, and armed robberies.
Here's a list of all the arrests made by offense:
Drunkenness: 32
Poss/Consp of Alcohol in Public: 8
Poss. of Beer Under 21: 35
Disorderly Conduct: 11
Driving Under The Influence: 6
Poss. Of Altered ID: 2
Poss. Of Cigarettes Under 18: 1
Unlawful Weapon (knife): 5
Hit and Run: 1
Poss. Of Marijuana: 4
Simple Assault: 2
Resisting Arrest: 3
GSC Bench Warrant: 1
Other Charges: 214
TOTAL 325
Police say the other charges included speeding, littering, faulty equipment, DUS, and other traffic related charges.
Law enforcement did say that there were no reported assaults and batteries of a high and aggravated nature, auto-breakings, armed robberies, or purse snatchings in the Five Points area.

The first few weeks of college year were some of the best, same with the last two weeks. Why do these police departments try to disrupt that for any other reason then they need more money. 0 -

What happened to parentral responsibility? Personally i wouldn't think of letting the educational system be responsible for rasiing my kids. More money is not the answer.0
